We are looking for an outstanding, dynamic, inspirational and enthusiastic Deputy Head of Secondary School to join our Secondary Leadership team in August 2020. 

Established in 2005, Deira International School – Dubai Festival City is a fully inclusive international school, for students aged three years to eighteen years. Located on an expansive campus in Dubai’s exclusive Al Badia community, Deira International School has earned the reputation for providing an exceptional education to a diverse student body representing over 80 different nationalities. Home to more than 1,800 students, who enjoy approaches to teaching that make Deira International School a deeply student centred school leading to great student well-being, a sense of belonging and high academic and personal outcomes. 

As an international school delivering the National Curriculum for England, Deira International School prepares students for the internationally recognized International General Certificate of Secondary Education (I)GCSE and the (IB) International Baccalaureate Diploma and Careers-related Programmes.  When students leave Deira International School, they go on to study at some of the most prestigious universities in the world. 

Our team of international Secondary academic staff is made up of highly qualified professionals who all share one goal: to provide quality education to all of our children in a caring, nurturing and supportive environment. All academic staff will work closely with the Head of Secondary School and share in curriculum development and after school activities.  


ROLE PURPOSE

To take a central role in assisting the Head Teacher and Governing Body to develop the school in accordance with its shared values and the school development plans


KEY ROLE SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

Leadership

Support the schools vision and high aspirations with a relentless focus on pupil’s achievement and personal development

Reflect the school’s ambitions and goals through strategic planning

Support the running of an equitable and inclusive school in which each individual matter and all pupil are safe

Inspire, motivate and influence staff/students and set the highest standards


Learning & Teaching

Ensure there is an innovative broad and balanced curriculum that meets the needs of all leaners

Manage the performance of the staff they are responsible for, including the support staff to bring about improvements

Continuously seek to improve the quality of learning and teaching

Support the Head Teacher in ensuring that the School’s academic program is fit for purpose and challenges students of all abilities

Maintain an overview of all curriculum review and development activities; ensuring that teachers maintain current in their knowledge of the curriculum and best teaching practices

Support the Head Teacher in ensuring that all School staff are well qualified, experienced,

trained to do their roles and are deployed effectively to support the school

To monitor and analyse student progress and attainment data wrt current and previous years

School Administration

Work within the school’s financial management to help the school to achieve its educational priorities

Manage pupil’s behaviour to create an effective climate of learning

Contribute to the effective the recruitment, retention, deployment and workload of the staff

Support the Head Teacher in organising staff meetings for discussion of common matters to ensure the smooth running of the School


People Relationships

Collaborate with teachers, parents and students to provide the best education for each student and assist them in their academic and professional goal

Create a culture of excellence, teamwork and collaboration amongst the staff, teachers, students and families

Create, develop and sustain relationships that result in active student engagement in the learning process

Utilize meaningful feedback of students, staff, families, and community in the evaluation of school programs and policies

Strengthen collaboration and professional networking with other schools, as well as local, regional, national and international communities 


School Development

Oversee all programs, services, and activities to ensure that program objectives are met

Contribute fully to the evaluation of the school’s strengths and weaknesses and use the findings to secure ongoing improvement

Develop the leadership capacity of staff and create effective teams

Use performance data incisively to support, monitor, evaluate and improve aspects of the school

Support the effective professional development of the staff including induction and where required the school’s contribution to training beyond the school


PERSON SPECIFIC:

Education: Bachelor’s degree, teaching certification, leadership qualification (NPQSL, NPQH)

Minimum Experience and Knowledge: 3 years senior leadership in a similar setting

Job-specific skills

Educational leader and outstanding teacher

Knowledge of international and local accreditation, inspection and evaluation frameworks

Excellent communication skills in spoken and written form

Sound decision making, solutions focused, knowledge of child protection and health and safety

Experience in developing and/or sustaining high performance teams

Highly effective relationship management with a variety of stakeholders

Knowledge of up to date curriculum and assessment practices

Committed to wellbeing of the school
