Deputy Head of the Junior School

Wellington College International Bangkok (WCIB)Bangkok, Thailand

About the Post

We are looking for the very best teachers there are.  Experience of working in top British schools, particularly in the UK but of course also internationally, is very important and UK teaching qualifications essential.  Our teachers need an unquenchable desire to make things better: excellent knowledge, skills and understanding are requirements, but we are always trying to improve, to redefine, to grow.  If you simply like the idea of doing what you have always done – or what everyone else always does – but with nicer weather and great beaches nearby, this is the wrong school for you.  Yes, the weather and beaches are great; but we are here to do a better job than any of us thought possible!

About Wellington College

Founded by Queen Victoria and opened in 1859, Wellington College was created to honour the memory of the first Duke of Wellington, who not only defeated Napoleon at the battle of Waterloo in 1815 but also went on to serve the country as peacetime Prime Minister.  Nearly 160 years later, the Tatler calls Wellington ‘clearly a leader in the world of education’ and it is, without doubt, one of the top schools in the UK and across the globe.

About Wellington College Bangkok

Wellington College Bangkok opened in August 2018 and will grow to accommodate 1,500 girls and boys aged 2-18 years. The school’s facilities are world-class: the design and appearance are modern yet combine distinctive features of Wellington College, Berkshire and elements of Thai culture. The buildings are set amidst a large, beautiful, green campus in Krungthep Kreetha, a suburban area midway between Bangkok city and Bangkok International Airport, right next to the expansive greens and fairways of the Unico Grande Golf Course.

In our first year of operation, we filled classes from Pre-Nursery to Year 6.  In September 2022, we will open our first Year 10 classes, having expanded naturally year on year.  Student numbers in the four-form-entry Junior School are very buoyant and, on the back of becoming the first school in the world to gain full COBIS Patron’s Accreditation within the first year of operation, and subsequent full membership of FOBISIA and CIS, the College is already recognised as one of the best international schools anywhere.  Our new Senior School building (the first of two) is a spectacular and extraordinary development which confirms Wellington as the most dynamically progressive and educationally significant new school in the region.

It is a fundamental principle that every child can thrive when provided with outstanding, wide-ranging and open-ended opportunities to develop, explore and learn. Our students’ individual responses to these opportunities, shepherded by some of the best teachers in the world and supported by our uniquely dedicated pastoral teams, can set them on the path to extraordinary academic achievement—which, at Wellington, routinely goes hand-in-hand with excellence in performing and visual arts, sport and service to others. This is what it means for the whole child to flourish.

How to Apply

Please click the APPLY ON SCHOOL WEBSITE button on this page.  Please also send an up-to-date CV and a full letter of application, addressed to the Master, to recruitment@wellingtoncollege.ac.th.  Closing date for applications is 30 December 2021.  Please note that, given the large number of applications we receive for each post, only longlisted applicants will be contacted.

Longlisted candidates will be interviewed via Teams/Zoom on a rolling basis (please note that longlisting begins before the deadline for applications); UK-based teachers whom we shortlist are normally asked to permit lesson observation in their current schools, followed by final interviews at Wellington College in Berkshire.  This year, that remains problematic – but we do want to see your teaching, and may request a video.  Please note that you must obtain the permission of your Head Teacher before you share a video with us.

Wellington College Bangkok is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all its students. Successful applicants will be required to submit a current police criminal clearance check or equivalent from their home country or current country of residence prior to appointment; further checks of any applicant’s full career history, national and international, will also be made.
