Job overview

We are looking for 3  Deputy Heads of Year (DHOYs) (Years 6/7, 8/9, 10/11) who are enthusiastic and motivated non-teaching Deputy Heads of Year who are passionate about the pastoral and academic well-being of young people at The Gatwick School.  The post will cover 2 year groups per role:

 Years 6/7 - @180 students, 60 in year 6 and 120 in year 7

Years 8/9 - @240 students

Years 10/11 - @240 students 

This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to make a significant contribution to the leadership, management and organisation of a Year group.  

The successful candidates will be a key part of our excellent Pastoral system, working with pupils and the Head of Year. Our Pastoral team has to combine the task of being caring professionals looking after the well-being of pupils, whilst having the ability to intervene assertively with behaviour issues. 

The successful candidate must be able to relate to young people and their parent/carers and have the ability to liaise with parents and teachers. The role is 35 hours per week 08:30-16:30, 39 weeks per year.

The main responsibilities will be:

 - Oversee the pastoral welfare of pupils and be available to pupils (and parents) in the year groups throughout the day  

- Establish positive relationships with pupils, parents, staff and external agencies in line with the school’s vision and values  

- Provide high quality pastoral support, ensuring high attendance and good punctuality  

- Identify and intervene in behavioural and safeguarding issues.

Opened in 2014, and judged 'Good' by Ofsted in all areas.  The Gatwick School is a state-funded all-through school based in Crawley, West Sussex. Teaching children aged 4-16, the school is non-denominational and mixed gender. Located on Gatwick Road, it is less than a mile from the international airport of the same name.

The school can be accessed on public transport by the Metrobus network, with the Gatwick Road North bus stop situated outside the school. The Gatwick School has a breakfast club and runs OASIS clubs at the end of the day for after-school intellectual stimulation.
