Deputy Head Pastoral & Head of Boarding
Kent College Pembury is seeking to appoint an empathetic and creative leader as Deputy Head (Pastoral) & Head of Boarding from September 2020. The Deputy Head Pastoral is responsible for the welfare and behaviour of all the pupils in the senior school, the overall administration of the pastoral system, oversees the welfare of the staff and as Head of Boarding, has responsibility for the Boarding life of the school. (This does not require a residential commitment). The role of Designated Safeguarding Lead also falls under the remit of the Deputy Head Pastoral.
The Headmistress has two Deputies (Deputy Head Academic and Deputy Head Pastoral), who operate very much as equals, sharing ideas and concerns and working together to achieve the best outcomes for every pupil and colleague in the school. The Deputies are expected to be able to deputise for the Headmistress as necessary.
The Deputies are expected to be a presence in and around school, attending matches, drama productions, concerts and other evening and weekend events. As members of the Executive Team they will also share cover for the school during holiday periods.
This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with a proven track record of pastoral leadership, and experience of managing a pastoral team. The post-holder will teach a significantly reduced timetable, and applications are welcome from specialists in any of the academic subjects offered by the school.
Founded in Folkestone in 1886, Kent College is an independent day and boarding school for girls, with a Senior School (ages 11-18) and Preparatory School (ages 3-11) sharing the same site, facilities and some specialist staff. The school is one of a group of ten schools within the Methodist Independent Schools Trust. The school has a resident Chaplain who leads the Christian worship in the school.
