The successful candidate will not be expected to be Class Teacher but will be expected to teach in the Upper School (Year 4 to Year 8) in a subject appropriate to qualifications.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Deputy Head of the Upper School (Pastoral)

MANAGEMENT

  1. To support the Headmistress as a member of the Senior Leadership      Team in the overall organisation of the school. 
  2. To maintain good practice and set a high standard in      terms of attendance, self discipline and professional attitude in the      school. 
  3. To maintain high levels of pupil welfare, pastoral care      and discipline in the school with particular attention given to Year 4-      Year 8.
  4. To ensure the School’s policies are adhered to, and to be      vigilant on any issues regarding Health and Safety.
  5. To participate in all Senior Leadership Meetings.
  6. To keep other members of the Senior Leadership Team      informed of any relevant matters concerning pupils or staff in the Upper      School setting.
  7. To work with the admin staff to ensure the smooth running      of the school on a day-to-day basis and on special occasions with      particular attention given to the Upper School.
  8. To assist the Headmistress in the regular monitoring and      review of all the school's pastoral policies and tracking with particular      attention given to Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3.
  9. To oversee the pastoral tracking and monitoring of pupils      within the Upper School.
  10. To oversee scheduling and planning of all Upper School      trips, including residential.
  11. To work closely with U4 staff and Junior      School to ensure smooth transitions to and from each department. 
  12. To meet with parents as and when      required.
  13. To chair department, staff meetings, when appropriate,      and pass the minutes to other members of the Senior Leadership Team.
  14. To take assemblies on a periodic basis and organise the      Upper School assembly rota.
  15. To maintain flexibility, to use initiative, to maintain      the School’s reputation and to manage any unforeseen circumstance
  16. To attend to any other matters as      detailed in the staff handbook or on the request of the Headmistress.
  17. To oversee the organisation of all      Whole School events, including the Carol Service and Prize Day.
  18. To liaise with the Facilities Manager      to oversee the Health and Safety of all areas of the school.
  19. To present to parents on the pastoral      progress of pupils and organise all parental support events, such as cyber      tracking and pastoral.


 Job Specification

Qualifications: The successful applicant will preferably be an experienced teacher of pupils in an IAPS, or similar, Pre Prep   School and will have experience of teaching at Key stage 1 and/or Key stage 2.He or she will have an understanding of child protection issues and procedures.

Skills: The ability to manage a team and to work on own initiative.

Well-developed organisational skills including a flexible approach and the ability to cope with a changing and varied workload.

A high standard of written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

Relevant ICT skills.
