Job overview

The Governors at Fairfield School are seeking to appoint an ambitious, innovative and experienced Deputy Headteacher to work alongside the head teacher, deputy head teacher and other school leaders, to support the school’s journey to an outstanding provision. The vacant post is a result of the school’s aim to promote leaders of the future as the current post holder moves into Headship. It is an exciting time to join our outward facing and collaborative special school, developing our inclusive learning environment into a Centre for Excellence.

Fairfield School caters for the needs of children and young people aged 3-19 years with severe and profound learning difficulties with a strong focus on personalisation and meeting individual needs. Each student has an Educational, Health and Care Plan. Those who attend are unable to access a supported place in a mainstream school or other special provision. Many of our pupils have additional complex needs linked to their physical, medical and sensory impairments.  Bespoke and adapted learning environments are provided alongside a child-centred approach. We aim to give each pupil every opportunity to achieve their full potential, to be happy and enjoy their time at school. The broad provision at Fairfield supports a wide range of specific interventions and enrichment which aim to meet personal needs of all our students.

Working with other leaders in school, the successful candidate will, amongst other roles, be jointly responsible for:

  • Leading on key aspects of teaching and learning
  • Conducting Annual Reviews and the administration of the EHCP process
  • Data analysis – assessments, recording and reporting (Pupil Progress)
  • Leading on enrichment, interventions and the use of the Pupil Premium to support school improvement and pupil progress.

A strong pastoral background, comprehensive knowledge and experience within an SEND role and/or Special School is essential.

The post requires excellent communication skills to support all stakeholders of the school alongside a strategic yet flexible approach to school leadership. Successful candidates should expect to fulfil wide and varied roles and responsibilities whilst working in partnership with the Headteacher. The post holder will work closely with other leaders to see the development of new ideas and initiatives put into practice and shape the future of the school.

The new deputy post will be an experienced SEND practitioner who knows and understands the complex nature of our students. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in school improvement; they will lead outstanding staff teams to engage and enthuse pupils to achieve their full potential - and beyond.
