Job overview

Are you a highly motivated and experienced leader who is passionate about developing others to ensure high standards of education for all pupils?

Is your classroom practice driven by innovation and research?

Bluecoat Primary Academy is looking to recruit an exceptional Deputy Head Teacher who has experience of developing other staff, leading whole-school change and delivering high standards of education to pupils from a range of backgrounds.

At Archway, we have an unwavering commitment to the highest standards of teaching and learning and keep this at the heart of all that we do. We are ambitious for our pupils and base our work on strategies proven to be effective by research and best practice. You will work closely with the Head Teacher and other senior leaders to:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the quality of education at the academy. This includes overseeing the work of curriculum leaders, designing and delivering CPL (continued professional learning) and evaluating and improving standards through assessment, quality assurance and instructional coaching
  • Support the Head Teacher to provide strategic leadership and highly effective operation of the academy

Bluecoat Primary Academy has grown from just 30 pupils in 2015 to a full two-form entry academy with an integrated Nursery and Focus Provision for pupils with ASD. The 450 pupils who attend are from a broad spread of cultural, spiritual and social backgrounds, and we are proud that our staff team reflect this. Therefore, we encourage applications from anyone who feels they reflect our community.

The successful candidate will be joining an established and effective team who are looking to build on our current strengths and deliver further improvement for the school. Ofsted graded behaviour and attitudes, leadership and management and EYFS outstanding when they inspected us in February this year.

There is no timetabled teaching commitment in this role; however, you will be expected to be an excellent classroom practitioner who is willing to teach classes across the school as part of raising standards and coaching and developing staff or, occasionally, if cover is required due to absence.

We are looking for:

  • An excellent classroom practitioner with a proven track record of delivering high standards of teaching and learning
  • The ability to build a strong culture of innovation and excellence in teaching and learning
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships quickly
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring to bring about improvement in practice
  • The ability to inspire and motivate through the delivery of high-quality CPL
  • Eagerness to stay abreast of the latest evidence, research and national agendas in education

In return, we can offer:

  • A school and Academy Trust which is truly values-driven
  • A wonderful, talented staff team to work alongside
  • Incredible children: we are proud of our unique and diverse school community
  • A well-established primary school with a strong culture of innovation and research underpinning our teaching and learning approach
  • A comprehensive and bespoke induction programme
  • Connections and networks within Archway, across schools and beyond the Trust. We embrace an outward-facing approach and connect with various primary networks
  • A school that has a good track record for staff development and career progression
  • Employee benefits and well-being scheme
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • Teachers’ pensions
  • Salary sacrifice bus pass scheme
