Job overview

Deputy Headmaster (Pastoral)

The recently appointed Headmaster invites applications for the post of Deputy Headmaster (Pastoral). This is a newly created post and an exciting opportunity to direct the School in the realisation of a distinctive vision for Catholic education within the Oratorian tradition.

The school is a voluntary-aided Roman Catholic academy with a comprehensive intake. Founded in 1863, the school remains in the trusteeship of the Fathers of the Oratory, London. There are 1380 pupils: 80 boys aged 7 to 10 in the Junior House, receiving a specialist music education; 950 boys aged 11 to 16 in the first to fifth forms; 350 in the sixth form, including 80 girls.

Applications are invited from teachers with hands on experience of leading and developing on whole school organisational and management issues, regardless of prior educational context and academic or pastoral professional background. Raw potential, personal disposition, talent, drive and commitment to the mission of Catholic education will also be decisive elements in the selection process.

The post may suit either an experienced manager, looking to widen or advance their career portfolio, or a relatively less experienced member of staff looking to make a major mark en route to their own Headship.

If interested in this fantastic opportunity at this prestigious School, please see further details on the School's website (www.london-oratory.org/current-vacancies/99.html). Candidates should write a letter of application and complete the school’s application form which is available on the school website.

The deadline for applications is: Midnight on Thursday, 10th May 2018

Interviews will be over 2 days during the period 14th to 18th May inclusive.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. The successful applicant will need to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

About The London Oratory School

Trad but quirky, The London Oratory School is a mainstream, Roman Catholic, all-through school with sixth form, situated in Fulham, south-west London. Founded in 1863 by the Fathers of the Oratory, we cater for boys aged seven to eighteen and have approximately 1,330 pupils enrolled.  Girls are admitted to the Sixth form.

We encourage all staff to get involved in our vibrant school life. The school is committed to developing staff and growing their skillset through CPD.  We have first class facilities which all staff are encouraged to use (including daily refreshments, on-site parking, a state of the art gym and swimming pool).

The school moved to its present site in 1970. In September 1989, the voluntary-aided school became grant-maintained. A Junior House was added next to the Arts Centre in September 1996.
