Job Description:

Thames British School is seeking an experienced and dedicated Deputy Headteacher (Academic) to oversee and manage the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) and IBDP programmes offered at the school. As the deputy headteacher (academic), you will work closely with the headteacher of the Secondary School, IBDP coordinator and head of Cambridge Advanced Programmes to ensure that all programmes are delivered to a high standard and all students are appropriately prepared for assessments and examinations. 


Responsibilities:

  • Employ best practices as a teacher with a 0.5 timetable in one or more Cambridge Secondary, Advanced or IBDP subjects.
  • Lead and manage the delivery of CAIE programmes offered at the school, including the Cambridge Primary, Secondary, and Advanced programmes; work closely with the IBDP Coordinator.
  • Develop and deliver a robust and engaging CAIE curriculum that meets the needs of all students, including those with learning needs.
  • Facilitate high departmental planning, teaching, assessment and feedback standards.
  • Provide guidance, support and training to teachers to ensure that they are fully equipped to deliver the CAIE and IBDP programmes.
  • Closely track and monitor student progress and attainment, ensuring that all students are making excellent progress and are appropriately prepared for the relevant assessments and examinations; initiate and monitor interventions that support and challenge students.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents and carers to ensure that they are informed and engaged in their child's progress in the CAIE and IBDP programmes.
  • Collaborate with other members of the leadership team to ensure that the school is delivering the best possible education to our students in the CAIE and IBDP programmes.
  • Manage and coordinate all aspects of the Cambridge exam process, including exam administration, registration, and scheduling.
  • Liaise with candidates, teachers, and examiners regarding exam details and results.
  • Manage exam budgets and oversee exam-related finances.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and databases on students and their progress.


Requirements:

  • Full teacher certification in the UK or the applicant’s native country for a relevant Cambridge Secondary or Advanced Subject (Bachelor of Education, PGCE, QTS or equivalent).
  • At least 5 years’ experience in teaching CAIE programmes, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role in an international school setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Experience of delivering a broad and balanced CAIE curriculum that meets the needs of all students, and an understanding of different teaching methodologies.
  • A deep knowledge of Secondary School assessment and examination processes and requirements.
  • Familiarity with the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme is desirable but not essential.
  • Specific leadership and management qualifications (e.g. Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership/NPQSL/NPQH or similar) are desirable but not essential.
