The governors of our outstanding school wish to appoint a Deputy Headteacher to work alongside our newly appointed Headteacher (from September 2022). 


Applications are invited from practising and committed Catholics for the post

of Deputy Headteacher at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School. We serve pupils from age 4 – 11 and have approximately 230 pupils from Nursery to Year 6.


St Joseph’s is a one-form entry primary school located near Canada Water tube station in Rotherhithe. Our school was deemed to be “Outstanding” by Ofsted in 2012 and “Outstanding” in the denomination education and Collective Worship inspection in 2018. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative, experienced leader passionate about excellence in education who wishes to support our Headteacher and Senior Leadership team.

Situated within a 5 minute walk to Canada Water station on the Jubilee line and overlooking Southwark Park, we are well placed for inspiring trips with all London has to offer whilst enjoying spacious grounds including our own allotment.

Governors wish to appoint someone who:


• has a strong Catholic faith who will nurture and promote the school’s distinctive Catholic ethos

• has an excellent, proven track record as a school leader

• will use their leadership skills creatively, and with passion and dedication, in cooperation with the SLT, to ensure the continued growth and development of pupils and staff within our school community

• to support the Headteacher to lead change and drive standards

• has the experience, enthusiasm, drive, ability and resilience to continue to work to raise aspirations, standards and achievements for all pupils

• is passionate about, and has experience of, providing the best possible holistic education for all primary pupils of all abilities

• will communicate effectively with parents, the parish and the wider local community

• is able to lead and manage alongside the Headteacher and deputise in the Headteacher’s absence

• will lead by example through outstanding and creative teaching which will motivate and inspire colleagues in all aspects of teaching and learning

• can coach and mentor effectively

• is innovative and forward thinking

• is reflective and focused on all children, with high expectations of their learning and behaviour

• can monitor rigorously and systematically for the progression of knowledge and skills throughout the curriculum
