Job overview

Nidderdale High School is a vibrant and highly successful school, with an ambition to develop an innovative curriculum in support of academic achievement and wellbeing for all. The school continues to grow in size and maintains a strong reputation in the community. Our recent Ofsted inspection confirmed we are a good school with ‘high ambitions’.

The school is seeking to appoint an experienced and successful leader with the passion, skills and qualities to help realise our ambitions for the future.

This new role provides an exciting opportunity for a colleague to play a lead role, as sole Deputy, in shaping the strategy for behaviour, pastoral care and inclusion across the school. The role offers the opportunity to make a demonstrable impact on the lives of every young person at Nidderdale High School. The successful candidate will join a talented team of leaders and colleagues both at Nidderdale High School and as part of Moorlands Learning Trust's wider network.

The school has a strong reputation within and beyond our local community and with a wide range of professionals for outstanding pastoral care and inclusive practice. As a small school we are uniquely placed to know our students as individuals and have planned a range of bespoke and innovative programmes to support our young people, this includes our NiddVenture offer. The successful applicant will play a leading role in exploring the potential for our alternative curriculum programmes to provide support for young people within and beyond our school community.

Relationships are key at Nidderdale High School, leadership of behaviour will require a commitment to restorative and relational practice and an understanding of the impact of adverse childhood experiences and trauma.

As a valued member of our team we can offer you:

·      Clear and shared values and expectations with an emphasis on 'achievement for all'

·      A commitment to professional development, including NPQ programmes

·      A stimulating work environment in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within easy commuting distance to Harrogate (30 mins), Ripon (25 mins) North Leeds (40 mins) and Skipton (30 mins)

·      An experienced, highly committed and supportive leadership team

·      Membership of a wider team of education, leadership and safeguarding professionals as part of the Moorlands Learning Trust

Nidderdale High School is part of the Moorlands Learning Trust and a member of the Red Kite Teaching School Alliance. Both students and staff enjoy the benefits of school improvement, professional development and career progression opportunities in the Trust & partnership working within the Alliance.

In January 2023, Ofsted judged the school ‘continues to be Good' in all areas of its provision. The ethos of the school, ‘a shared vision’ for ensuring the quality of education continues to improve from an already good position and the morale and wellbeing of staff were all highlighted in the report.

If you have the motivation and drive for excellence and want to be part of an enthusiastic, dedicated and well-resourced team, committed to ensuring that all students make the best possible progress in an ambitious school with the desire to be 'Outstanding', we would be pleased to receive an application from you.

Please complete the application form by clicking the link in the advert and ensure your application is accompanied by a covering letter (no more than two sides of A4) explaining:

·      Your vision for outstanding pastoral care, behaviour and inclusion

·      Your experience, qualities and skills which make you suitable for the post including your experience of leading whole school developments

We are committed to meeting the needs of our diverse community and aim to have a workforce reflecting this diversity. We are also committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.

Interview date:  Monday 22nd / Tuesday 23rd April 2024

“Teachers know their subjects well. Most use questioning effectively to encourage students to give extended answers and to justify their opinions and answers. As a result, most students speak fluently and confidently.”
