We are a diverse and highly successful Church of England school with a positive ethos, strong family values and a commitment to inclusive practice in which children make very good progress. We value our staff, with professional development at the centre of our work and, as our current DHT has been appointed to a headship, this is a marvellous opportunity for an inspiring leader to join an outstanding school as we continue our journey after becoming fully 2 form entry in 2022.

Our new Deputy Headteacher will facilitate the school to grow and evolve in a way that truly reflects our amazing community, having a range of skills to complement our ambitious and highly effective Senior Leadership Team and teaching staff. We are looking for a DHT who is an outstanding teacher with leadership experience and is ready for their next challenge. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and highly effective person who is able to provide strategic and day-to-day management across the school, lead teaching & learning with a focus on high standards and will role-model highly effective classroom practice.

Our recruitment process is about finding the right personality with the right experience, someone who will be as excited as we are about developing our school and nurturing all our children.

We are looking for a DHT who:

  • Will keep safeguarding our children, staff and wider community at the forefront of all we do.
  • Is able to model growth and inspire excellence throughout the school community
  • Is an outstanding teacher with experience of teaching both KS1 & KS2, with a sound understanding of EYS and strong subject lead experience.
  • Is a true professional; hardworking, organised, efficient and creative, with the ability to work strategically as well as supporting the day-to-day management of the school.
  • Will be a skilled, flexible and determined leader who will make a positive impact on the curriculum and rise to a challenge; promoting inclusion and wellbeing while supporting, motivating and challenging children and staff.
  • Has high expectations of themselves, the staff and the children, and is committed to their own continued professional learning with the fervour and intelligence to thrive and lead in our busy school community, bringing creativity and inspiration.
  • Excels in utilising effective communication skills across our community and beyond.

We offer:

  • The opportunity to assist in leading our outstanding, successful and over-subscribed school in the next stage of our and your development.
  • A fulltime role that is fundamentally not class-based.
  • A dedicated, inclusive and dynamic staff.
  • Excellent CPD opportunities within and outside our school, with the opportunity to shine.
  • High quality professional learning and support services, including an investment in TAs.
  • An ambitious, effective and supportive Governing Body who have staff development and well-being high on their agenda.
  • An active and helpful school association within a wider community who are fully invested in the children’s learning.
  • A welcoming, positive and caring environment with well-maintained buildings and extensive grounds; with nearby parks and woods, a pleasant staff-room, discounted fitness opportunities, good public transport links and a staff car-park/on-street parking.

About St. John's Church of England Primary School

St. John’s is a friendly and welcoming school and is a great place to work. Visitors always comment on the ethos of the school being one of the things which most strikes you when you first walk through the door, and this is one of the things that makes it such a friendly place to work. We have a strong staff team and together teachers, TAs and all support staff work to ensure the very best for all our children.

St. John’s is a church school and we ask all staff members to be in sympathy with our Christian faith (but this does not mean that you have to be a practising Christian). We hold Collective Worship every morning and all members of classroom staff attend this with their classes. It makes a fantastic start to the day and means that the whole school community is able to come together before they begin their daily learning.

Everyone works hard to make our school environment an enjoyable place to work and learn for all children and adults. All of the classrooms are bright and spacious and we are lucky enough to have a large amount of outside space including a school field as well as two playgrounds and a Spiritual garden. We all take great pride in our school and take the time to make our displays and learning environments colourful and engaging.

St. John’s CofE Primary School is an employer committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
