Aurora Cedars School in Wolverhampton will offer a bespoke education provision for up to 80 pupils aged 5-19 who have ASC/SEMH needs. The curriculum is creative and personalised for the pupils to ensure that we provide them with the best opportunities to succeed.  

The building has been being redeveloped, and work has been done to design the look and feel of the school to ensure it fulfils its potential of being an amazing learning environment with facilities to allow students to access a varied curriculum in a calm and nurturing environment with a team that strives to give every student the confidence and opportunities to achieve. 

 

We are currently looking for a Deputy Headteacher to join us on a FTC to support the Acting Headteacher during the existing Headteachers maternity leave. The role will require support with the ongoing development of a new specialist provision that opened in June 2023.

The role:

As our new Deputy Head Teacher, your role will be to passionately and enthusiastically work closely alongside the Head teacher to deliver the schools strategic vision. You will also lead manage and deputise for the Headteacher on site and off site as and when required as well as occasionally carrying out the professional duties of a class teacher as required.

 

Key Duties: 

  • Work in partnership with other agencies and services to ensure the best possible outcomes for students both in terms of character development and progress achieved at the school
  • Be a strategic contributor to all elements of school improvement as well as a balanced visible presence in the school and for all stakeholders.
  • Lead and contribute to an ethos of responsible inclusion and cultural changes/capital within the school and as perceived by all external stakeholders
  • Be the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Person for the school
  • Support the Headteacher and SENCO with student referrals, induction and personal development pathways for all children
  • Liaise with other members of the SLT ensuring that through collaborative working all school improvement priorities are met with impact required.
  • Participate in the selection and recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff
  • Support the professional development of staff through overseeing the school’s professional development framework and appraisal process as well as the schools CPD programme in relation to trauma informed working across all aspects of the school.
  • Be a strong and supportive mentor for the senior leadership team, middle leaders, EQTs and all staff Undertake any professional duties of the Head teacher which may be delegated


Skills and Qualifications

Experience:

Successful candidate are likely to demonstrate the following: 

  • Significant and successful experience at senior or middle leadership level within a special school setting
  • Recent experience as an outstanding practitioner regarding leadership and teacher of students with a wide range of highly complex needs
  • Experience of leading and managing a diverse team of staff effectively
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of how to work effectively with students who have highly complex needs and SEND.
  • Knowledge of implementing a specialist and nurture based education offer which provides personal development, academic progress for all students as well as clear alternative routes and destinations for all
  • Working knowledge of the SEN code of practice 
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Effective decision maker
  • Confident in holding others to account
  • Good ICT skills and understanding of how ICT can be used to support learning
  • Resilient with the ability to remain calm and reflective when working in a challenging environment
  • High level of emotional intelligence with the ability to solve complex issues
