Job overview

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, enthusiastic and dynamic colleague with a proven track record of school improvement to join our School as Deputy Headteacher. The successful candidate will be predominantly responsible for all aspects of student personal development, behaviour and attitudes and will also make a significant contribution to setting high expectations and providing drive and ambition to achieve excellence as a member of our Leadership Team. Our aspiration is that this post will deliver as much for you as we hope you will deliver for our School. We are committed to supporting you in journey towards headship in the future.

Our ideal candidate is:

  • Passionate and values driven
  • In possession of excellent leadership and people skills
  • Able to plan strategically, motivate and implement developments to completion
  • Solutions focused and determined
  • An outstanding practitioner in the classroom
  • Able to network effectively.

We recognise that our staff are the most valuable asset in our School. We work hard to create a ‘one team’ ethos and to address workload issues. As a Teaching School we work collegiately with our network of schools to learn from each other to develop and refine our practice. We invest significantly in CPD opportunities throughout the school year with many staff having completed national NPQ courses. The core of our development work is based around triad working, developed around individual need, with a focus on learning from each other in a supportive environment. Consequently our staff retention has been very high in recent years.

Ringwood School is situated on the edge of the New Forest and just to the north of a beautiful part of the South Coast. We enjoy a strong reputation locally, with dedicated colleagues and 1550 fantastic students to work with and inspire. We have high expectations of behaviour and there are excellent relationships between staff and students based on mutual respect. Our School is a high-performing, over-subscribed comprehensive school with a Sixth Form. In 2017, Ofsted once again judged the school to be Good; personal development and welfare was judged to be outstanding.

If this sounds like the type of school and staff team that you would like to join and lead, please get in contact. Visits to the school are welcomed; please contact the Headteacher’s PA, Mrs Jill King (01425 481285) to arrange. More details on the school’s website: www.ringwood.hants.sch.uk

Closing date: Noon, Friday 10 May 2019.

Interviews: Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 May 2019.

Ringwood School is an 11 –18, heavily oversubscribed, popular comprehensive school set in the market town of Ringwood in Hampshire. We are a large and vibrant secondary school of 1550 students and just over 200 staff. The school became an Academy in April 2011 and gained National Teaching School status in July 2011. As a Teaching School we take a very active part in teacher training and undertake outreach work to support other schools locally. Our last Ofsted inspection was March 2017 and we are currently an Ofsted ‘good’ school.

The historic market town of Ringwood is a lively community situated close to the New Forest National Park; the Dorset World Heritage Coastline and the beaches surrounding Bournemouth. Our students come from Ringwood (we are the only secondary school in the town), from East Dorset and from the surrounding villages of the New Forest.

We welcome children of all abilities, interests and aptitudes and provide a high quality educational experience which reflects our commitment to the very best education has to offer. We combine traditional values with a creative, innovative curriculum designed to prepare young people for a rapidly changing world. We are constantly striving to achieve the highest possible standards in all aspects of our work. We believe that young people should enjoy their school days in a safe, caring and intellectually stimulating environment, gaining a real sense of achievement and actively participating in the community life of the school.
