Job overview

Ark is an international charity, transforming lives through education. We exist to make sure that every child, regardless of background, has access to a great education and real choices in life. We know that great schools need great teachers, which is why we offer you the very best training and support at every stage of your career - from starting out as an NQT to running your own school.

Our highly-successful network of 34 schools educates over 20,000 students across Birmingham, Hastings, London and Portsmouth. They are achieving some of the best results in the country despite being largely in areas of historic academic underachievement.

Inclusion lies at the heart of Ark’s ethos and we are committed to supporting every teacher to meet the needs of all the pupils in their classroom. We are looking for a strong Deputy Headteacher - Inclusion leader to develop this vision across the Birmingham primary academies, in particular Ark Tindal and Ark Rose.

The Ark Network Inclusion leads, in partnership with the Drive for Literacy team, have established an evidence-based graduated response model that we deliver across the network, leading comprehensive training programmes for school leaders, teachers and TAs to embed these approaches.

Our starting point is great teaching in every classroom for every child – we know this is the key to the success for all students, particularly our most vulnerable. We then support adults to feel confident in using data to track progress and support schools to access evidence based interventions. We provide on-going network wide and in school training for our SENCOs and their line managers to ensure that specialist support is impactful in each of our schools. This is an exciting opportunity to join the team and really embed the model in our Birmingham schools.

The ideal candidate will have the highest expectations for all pupils, particularly those with SEND and have:

  • Knowledge and understanding of a broad range of special educational needs
  • Experience of identifying, implementing, monitoring and evaluating effective learning and teaching strategies for pupils with SEND in challenging schools
  • Experience of working with multi-agency teams to accurately identify pupils’ special educational needs and implement support to meet those needs
  • A proven record of improving pupil outcomes where there are moderate to severe SEN and behaviour needs
  • Experience of coaching, mentoring and training staff to better support pupils with SEND
  • Successfully completed the National Award for SEN Coordinators

We offer attractive pay and conditions as well as high quality career and professional development (CPD) and opportunities for career progression. All staff also have access to a range of benefits including reduced gym membership and large retail discounts.

We welcome you to visit our school; to arrange a visit please contact Yusra Jahan on 0121 464 3049 or info@arktindalprimary.org.
