Job overview

We’re Co-op Academy Brierley – a brand new special school in Leeds (LS9) and we’re seeking an ambitious and engaging Deputy Headteacher to join our team from January 2024 (or sooner if possible).

As Deputy Headteacher in our new senior leadership structure, you will contribute to our success from the outset, playing a key role in establishing Co-op Academy Brierley as an outstanding provider of education to young people with Special Educational Needs.

Working closely with our newly appointed Headteacher and Trust leaders to help shape and deliver a shared vision for the future, you’ll have significant successful experience in leadership and management of a specialist setting. Your knowledge of The Code of Practice will be strong and you will be able to implement systems and processes that ensure statutory requirements are met effectively. You’ll have a passion for SEND curriculum and a desire to ensure that all pupils receive the best possible education.

You will be joining a highly collaborative and successful partnership of schools in East Leeds, with four other schools in our Trust in LS9, all rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. As a growing and ambitious Trust we can also offer successful candidates huge opportunities for development and career progression.

The opening of Co-op Academy Brierley will be delivered by a key team of incredibly talented individuals from across our Trust and partner organisations. It will initially be based in a brand new, purpose-built extension at our Co-op Academy Nightingale site (LS9) from September 2023, before moving to newly built, state of the art premises on Cross Green Lane (LS9). This new facility will provide an outstanding working and learning environment for our colleagues and young people and will sit within a wider site undergoing significant redevelopment by Leeds City Council. Initially opening to pupils across years one to seven from September 2023, the school will go on to eventually cater for all year groups within the 4-16 age range.

As a colleague at Co-op Academies Trust, you’ll work within a diverse learning community, striving to deliver an outstanding working and learning experience for all. You will be joining a supportive, committed and passionate team who work hard to ensure that everyone in our Trust can achieve their potential. And of course, you’ll do all this whilst capturing the spirit of our vision and values and whilst role-modelling exceptional professional behaviours.

So, if you’re an experienced senior leader in a specialist setting who is committed to creating opportunities that enable young people to thrive, then we’d be delighted to hear from you.
