Inspire their remarkable at Beacon Academy

Beacon Academy is situated in Loughborough, with approximately 345 children on role including a Moderate Learning Difficulty (MLD) resource base. It is time for change and our staff are ready to embrace new leadership which has vision, integrity and rigour because we have huge potential and a commitment to rapid improvement.

As a driven, focused leader, your track record of improving results will make you perfect for this role. You will support the Headteacher and lead an area of negotiated specialism within the Academy (not just one area). The successful candidate will need to be motivated, innovative, flexible and have a proven track record of working with children with a wide range of needs. They will have a passion for developing and extending potential in both our pupils and staff team by recognising and nurturing individual qualities and strengths, thus driving Beacon Academy forward to become an outstanding academy of the future.

Within this role, you must be ambitious and able to:

  • Be brave, discover what’s possible, push the limits and be big-hearted
  • Understand the new framework and the importance of curricular design, knowing what outstanding looks like is an important part of this role
  • Commit to each and every child being inspired to have a remarkable life

Beacon Academy is part of Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) national network of over 60 primary, secondary and special academies.

We passionately believe that every child can discover their own remarkable life. It’s what motivates us. We know this vision requires something extra. Which is why at AET, you’ll find more. More opportunities, so you can forge your own path. More care and support, so you can prioritise what matters most. More purpose, for you and for the children we are inspiring.

We offer:

  • More like minded colleagues, so you can benefit from others’ experience - You’re connected to our network of over 60 academies and thousands of education professionals.
  • More opportunities, so you can forge your own path - As a large and expanding multi academy trust, there are ample opportunities for development and new experiences.
  • More hands on support, so you can get on with what matters most - Expert operations support removes headaches, allowing you to focus on the children.
  • More technology so you can make more impact - G Suite for Education embedded throughout. Collaborative cloud technology gives you access to the latest tools, when and where it suits you. More tech enabled classrooms mean less time spent on admin and more time teaching.
  • More time - We strive to minimise unnecessary distractions so you can have energy for your job, and your life.

If you are a truly inspirational, highly motivated and forward-thinking leader, with the energy and passion to change lives then this could be an excellent opportunity for you.

Our new Deputy Headteacher will enjoy the autonomy of leadership rooted in the local community, whilst working in partnership with the Headteacher, a system leader AET’s National Director of Primary Schools, Lauren Costello OBE, with support from a committed local governing board.

This position is required to commence January 2020.  Interviews are scheduled to take place Thursday 03 October 2019.

Closing date: 12:00 noon on Monday 16 September 2019

About Beacon Academy

**Please scroll to the bottom of this page to view our live vacancies**

We are a large primary school on the edge of Loughborough with an MLD Special Provision and Nursery.

Beacon is a great place to be where children are at the centre of what we do. We work closely as a team to improve the life chances of our children who come from all over Loughborough, including Shelthorpe Estate. Our intake is mixed; with a high number of children with EHCPs and over half our children are entitled to free school meals. Therefore everyone who works at Beacon has a drive to make sure that our children get the best education they possibly can, this has its challenges but is incredibly rewarding.

We endeavour to work closely with other schools locally and have a number of links to Ashmount Special School through the Loughborough Learning Alliance (LLA). The LLA provide local professional development and enable us to moderate our work within the Loughborough Area. Nationally we are linked to Lift Schools where we are able to use nation research and resources to impact our teaching and learning.

The staff at Beacon are our greatest resource and we will nurture and develop you throughout your career. Being part of Lift Schools means every employee at every level is able to access tailored CPD and opportunities to work across the group as they progress.

We warmly welcome visitors and hope that you will come and see for yourself just what we are about and whether or not working here is right for you.

Thank you for your interest in our school; we can't wait to meet you!

General Information

Beacon Primary Academy is a 2 to 11 aged community academy in the Shelthorpe area of Loughborough.

The school originally opened in 1933 as an infant and junior school and was later amalgamated into a single school. The Nursery building was opened in 2005. The school also benefits from an extensive field space for outdoor activities. In December 2012 it became part of a network of schools sponsored by Lift Schools.

It is a larger than average-sized primary academy with 309 pupils. Included in this figure, is a 40-place Moderate Learning Difficulty (MLD) resource provision for children with an Education & Health Care Plan (EHC) or a Statement of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Our popular 80-place full-time equivalent (FTE), term-time only Nursery includes a 6 FTE Severe Learning Difficulty (SLD) resource provision.

There are various clubs and activities that take place on site during the evenings and at weekends for adults and children within the community. There is a weekly Family Learning group that works alongside one of the teachers and children in Key Stage 1. The area has good transport links and the Academy is close to Loughborough University. Housing is a mixture of council and affordable dwellings. This is a community that is growing as can be seen from the high numbers of pupils in Key Stage 1.
