Job overview

The role of Deputy Headteacher is a truly exciting opportunity for a candidate with the vision, experience, and energy to shape a forward-thinking approach to the delivery of the academic curriculum.  The Deputy Head is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and sits on the Governors Curriculum and Staffing Committee.

The successful applicant must have the necessary skills to utilise their autonomy to ensure the continuingly high academic and personal standards of our boys and must possess a strong empathy towards the School’s Jesuit identity and mission. A working knowledge of the 11+ syllabus, and transfer to Senior Schools would be advantageous.

This post becomes available following the promotion of the current incumbent to Headship. It is an important and pivotal role in the running of this vibrant and successful school.

If you feel you have the right skills and experience for this exceptional role and are excited by the possibility of joining the Jesuit family, we would be delighted to receive your application.

Donhead is a vibrant, exciting, and fulfilling place in which to work.  The school is characterised by a warm, welcoming, and supportive atmosphere, as noted by our recent visit from ISI.  New colleagues are supported through an introduction and ongoing training in Jesuit Education.

Salary is on the Donhead Leadership Scale.

We can offer a variety of benefits, such as:

  • Competitive salaries and pay progression
  • Access to the Global Jesuit Schools’ Network and extensive professional development opportunities
  • Generous pension schemes
  • Free life assurance benefit and personal accident cover
  • A discount of up to 50% on fees for children at Donhead
  • Competitive terms and conditions of employment

Early applications are advised as the school reserves the right to appoint at any stage during the application process.

Please contact Sian Buckley, Headteacher’s PA, on headteacherpa@donhead.org.uk if you have any questions.

Donhead is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects every member of staff to share this commitment.

Any offer of an appointment is subject to satisfactory references, an Enhanced DBS disclosure, verification of identity and qualifications, satisfactory medical fitness, evidence of the right to work in the UK and DfE prohibition checks.  Additional overseas checks will be required for candidates who have lived or worked outside the UK.

About Donhead Preparatory School

A Jesuit School where children are honoured, cared for and believed in

We believe in ‘cura personalis’ – development of the whole person. Each child will experience this differently, based around their interests, talents, choices and personality, but all will benefit from this approach. While academic performance is important, learning and personal growth extends far beyond the classroom at Donhead.

Donhead School is embarking on an exciting phase of development as it transitions to co-education from September 2024.  We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment where pupils can excel and develop important life skills.
