Job overview

Deputy Principal

Dawn House School, Rainworth

Salary: Teachers Leadership Group pay scale 11-15 (£54,091 - £59,581)

Contract: Permanent, Full Time

We are looking for a successful leader to join our highly effective executive team. Taking strategic ownership of education, the successful candidate will be pivotal in driving the realisation of the school strategic plan.

You will lead, inspire and drive change.

This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring Principal to work with a multi-disciplinary team who are committed to delivering excellent outcomes for all pupils.

At Dawn House School we help those young people who find communication the hardest. We are looking for a Deputy Principal who shares our belief that communication is at the heart of learning.

Dawn House School is a non-maintained residential specialist school for approximately 80 children and young people aged 5 to 19 years who have severe and complex speech language and communication difficulties and / or Autism. Most pupils have a complex profile of learning, sensory and emotional needs. Speech and language needs are the foremost barrier to their learning.

The last Ofsted Section 5 (February 2018) judged the provision at Dawn House to be ‘outstanding’ across all areas.

The Deputy Principal will work directly under the Principal and be able to provide the day to day operational management of the school enabling the Principal to focus on strategic and outward facing work. You will provide a strategic and operational lead to a team of teachers and teaching assistants to ensure high quality provision for all of our pupils; to develop the curriculum and to form and sustain external partnerships. As a key member of the executive leadership group, you will lead on developing, implementing and monitoring policies and practice to ensure the aims and objectives of the school are achieved. You will play a key role in the school’s self-evaluation processes actively seeking opportunities to improve and develop the school further. As a qualified teacher you will have a depth of experience across a number of key stages. A thorough understanding of children and young people, how they learn, the importance of the role therapy plays in this learning, and a passion to improve their life chances are essential.

Dawn House School is one of I CAN’s two specialist schools which together provide intensive support for children aged 4 to 19. I CAN is the children’s communication charity. We are experts in helping children develop the speech, language and communication skills they need to thrive in a 21st century world.
