Located in South Oxfordshire, Abbey Woods caters for approximately 170 pupils, aged 3 to 11. It is situated in beautiful and spacious grounds, and we are an easy commute from the surrounding towns such as Abingdon, Didcot and Wallingford, along with good transport links to Oxford and Reading.

We are looking for an ambitious and innovative leader to lead the whole school quality of education for our children. The post-holder will share the ethos of our school and be committed to supporting us in delivering exceptional education to the community we serve. The ideal candidate will play a significant role in formulating, articulating and delivering the aims of the school by developing our curriculum, improving our teaching and learning, and monitoring whole school assessment. The successful post holder would:


  • Be an excellent practitioner and someone who has good understanding of the pedagogy needed for the curriculum to be implemented successfully
  • Demonstrate a commitment to developing a culture of effective coaching to improve the quality of teaching and learning
  • Demonstrate a commitment to improving student progress

The post holder is required to carry out the duties of a Deputy Head Teacher in accordance with the provisions of the current School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document and within the range of teachers’ duties set out in that document and School Development Priorities.

Abbey Woods caters for approximately 200 pupils, aged 3 to 11. It is situated in beautiful and spacious grounds which the children enjoy in both their learning and leisure time. The school is made up of eight classes. It is school policy to try to ensure that class sizes do not exceed 30 pupils. All classes are well resourced to provide a high-quality curriculum for every pupil.
