Job overview

St Michael's Church of England Primary School is looking to appoint a compassionate and inspirational Deputy Headteacher to develop, deliver and lead pastoral care across our school, with effect from September 2024. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable teacher to take on a leadership role and build on the many established strengths of our school.

Salary: L5-L8 (£52,072 – £56,080). Other: QTS status is essential.

We are an open and inclusive primary school, educating children between the ages of 5 and 11 years. Located in the garrison town of Larkhill, Wiltshire, our school aims to spark interest, ignite a passion for learning and fire up ambition to inspire every child to recognise and exceed expectations. Our staff provide a challenging, yet nurturing, environment based on our Christian values and we are committed to learning outside the classroom, as much as inside; with regular trips planned and visitors invited in to help make the learning relevant and linked to both our local community and the wider world. In May 2022 we joined Acorn Education Trust, which has provided exciting opportunities to improve local education and draw on collective experience.

The role will involve supporting the Headteacher in managing staff and resources and formulating, implementing and monitoring progress towards the achievement of St Michael’s aims and objectives. The successful candidate will be expected to lead on areas including pastoral education (attendance and behaviour), pupil and staff wellbeing and safeguarding and will also take on the role of DSL within our school.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has the drive, vision and ambition to achieve excellence for all our pupils;
  • Has proven leadership qualities and the ability to challenge, inspire and motivate colleagues;
  • Is an imaginative, innovative, resourceful and decisive leader;
  • Has an understanding of the current educational climate;
  • Has good knowledge and awareness of Pastoral education, pupil/staff wellbeing and safeguarding;
  • Is able to lead on all matters pertaining to pupil attendance and behaviour;
  • Is an effective team member who can contribute positively to Pastoral care across the school community, including supporting the school’s military families;
  • Has a positive, cheerful outlook with a good sense of humour;
  • Is able to forge good relationships with students and staff;
  • Is able to work hard and remain calm under pressure;
  • Has a desire to work within the Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) structure.

We can offer the successful candidate:

  • An ambitious and vibrant place to work, with enthusiastic children and staff who are passionate about learning;
  • A workplace where everyone feels valued and supported;
  • Opportunities for training and progression;
  • The support of Acorn Education Trust, with excellent opportunities to work with experienced colleagues;
  • A supportive and clearly defined induction procedure.
