About the role

We are seeking to appoint a talented, dedicated and inspirational Deputy Headteacher to our senior leadership team to lead on the Quality of Education.

This is an exciting opportunity to take a pivotal leadership role in a school that is committed to do the very best for its students and staff.  You will be joining a hardworking and dedicated team of support staff, teachers and senior leaders. We believe that every child can succeed regardless of background or start point and expect the same commitment from all who work with us.

Blue Coat is a successful and oversubscribed school in the heart of the city of Coventry.  As a Christian school our intake draws from both the local area and across the city and surrounding areas.  Consequently we have a diverse intake and a culturally thriving school.  The school was graded ‘Outstanding’ in its SIAMS inspection and ‘Good’ by Ofsted in June 2016 and March 2020, and continues to perform exceptionally well academically.  Our average grade at GCSE is 53.69 and our Progress 8 score is +0.31.  The vast majority of our students stay on into the sixth form and continue their studies.

At Blue Coat Church of England School, our vision is “Living life in all its fullness”. We exist to equip our students to live life in all its fullness by providing excellent education which is distinctively Christian and inclusive of all. At the heart of this education are the values of Care, Hard Work, Respect, Integrity and Servanthood, working Together for the good of all individuals, the school and wider communities.

We have a large and successful Post 16 provision with over 350 pupils studying either A levels or Vocational courses.  We are consistently in the top performing sixth forms in the city and we have excellent rates of progression to universities, apprenticeships and employment.

The person appointed to the post will need to be able to demonstrate:

• A deep understanding of how an effective curriculum works with the foundation of knowledge, skills and understanding appropriately sequenced and assessed at key points in Key Stage 3 to enable success at Key Stages 4 and 5.

• Exceptional expertise in all matters relating to Quality of Education – including being a strong practitioner themselves and fully capable of impacting widely on the practice of others.

• Substantial experience of successfully managing initiatives relevant to the role, as set out in the job description and person specification.

We are looking for an experienced senior leader who will complement the existing team but also add challenge and new ideas. Blue Coat School is a fantastic, supportive place to work and learn and I look forward to receiving your application should you choose to apply.
