Job overview

The Governors of Hadley Learning Community Secondary Phase are looking for an inspirational leader who can make a real difference to the life chances of our young people.

Hadley Learning Community is a vibrant and forward-thinking all-through school for students from 5 – 16 years of age, located in the community of Hadley in Telford. The school opened on the 1st September 2006 and became a proud member of the Learning Community Trust in 2018. The school is a £70 million PFI project, in partnership with Mitie, which represents a major investment by the Borough of Telford and Wrekin Council in creating an exceptional 21st Century learning campus for our students. The campus consists of:

· 1200 place secondary phase for 11-16 year olds, with 240 students in each year group.

· 630 place primary phase for 5-11 year olds with 90 children, in three classes, in each year group.

· Community facilities, called The Circle, for sports which includes a swimming pool and fitness suite, as well as a Public Library, Coffee shop, Theatre and Dance Studio all used by the public during the day, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Hadley Learning Community is built in the heart of its community, and this has shaped the vision and ethos that is embedded in our successful school. Our daily pillars of Belong, Respect, Inspire, Succeed and Enjoy provide solid foundations for teachers’ daily practice and act as a mantra for our students’ lives within their school.

Since opening, the school has established a culture of success creating young adults that are well respected within our society. Our results have historically placed us within the top five schools nationally for progress and this is a reflection of the thorough systems, routines and high quality of education that are established within HLC. We are a driven school and recognise the need to keep moving forwards to provide our young people with the best educational and life experience. Ofsted recognised in the most recent inspection in 2022 that ‘there is enough evidence of improved performance to suggest that the HLC could be judged outstanding if we were to carry out a section 5 inspection now’.

We are looking for a Deputy Headteacher to support the strategic leadership and management of the school, creating and maintaining a dynamic, reflective learning environment which is engaging and fulfilling for all students. Working with the Quality of Education team and our Instructional Coaches, you will ensure a culture that fosters continuous improvement in the quality of education offered to our young people.

Within this role, the key strategic responsibilities include: leading the Quality of Education team (designing and evaluating curriculum provision and developing teaching and learning); leading Subject Leaders’ development and co-ordinating quality assurance processes alongside our SLT and middle leaders to improve outcomes for all students.

We are offering a superb opportunity for the successful candidate to work within a school that is innovative, dynamic and caring. This appointment is an integral role to our school development. It is therefore important to us that the candidate is experienced, strategic, and that they can motivate and lead both staff and students whilst being able to hold a high bar for all. We know that this is a truly exciting opportunity that will lead to personal development and a superb stepping stone into future headship.

Please provide a covering letter (Maximum of two sides of A4 paper) with your application, outlining your expertise and vision for moving Quality of Education to be a securely Outstanding offer for our students.

Completed applications should be sent to charlotte.brakes@LCT.education by 9am on Monday 13th May 2024. Shortlisting will take place and successful applicants will be invited to interview within this week. It is anticipated that interviews will take place on Wednesday 15th May 2024.

Please contact charlotte.brakes@LCT.education should you wish to arrange a visit or speak to the headteacher for further details. We look forward to meeting you to discuss the role further.

Yours sincerely,

Dan Roycroft

Values and vision

Our students will walk through the door of their school, where everyone belongs, with pride. Our children, families and wider community will know that we support them as we are rooted in all aspects of local life.  We believe that our school can only be as strong as the community we serve and, as a result, we know that our school is responsible for providing the foundations for our community to thrive.

Our students will appreciate the importance of their education and respect those within their school environment, and beyond, who strive to nurture each and every one to be the best that they can be.  Our children will recognise the importance of being well-mannered and polite individuals who have the confidence and self-assurance to represent themselves, and their school, with credit.

Our staff will instil a drive and ambition that inspires every child to fulfil their potential.  We will create opportunities for lifelong learning ensuring that their time within our classrooms is only the beginning of their journey.  Our students will be equipped with a love of learning that will provide them with the skills to contribute to their world whether it be locally, nationally or globally.

Our students will be confident in the knowledge that our staff will do everything within their power to ensure they succeed.  Our students will understand that they need to work hard, be resilient and driven in their approach to their studies. We will embrace a ‘can do culture’, which will encourage us to learn from our mistakes and develop an understanding that by supporting each other anything is possible. Our vision is to provide our students with an exciting curriculum and linked opportunities that inspire them to charge at barriers that might stand in their way to fulfilling their goals. We will mould our young peoples’ lives through the arts, sports, STEM and hundreds of other initiatives giving them the tools to flourish.

We will stand by our belief that as a school we can transform a community to understand that education is the most valuable gift anyone can offer you. We will believe in our students and promise to give them the opportunities they dream of. We will shape happy, young people who relish learning in a safe environment.  We will all call our school our own and be proud to be a part of the HLC family.

We will inspire our students to respect themselves, others and the environment in which they belong, allowing them to succeed through the enjoyment of learning.
