Job overview

Deputy Headteacher role required from January 2018 (or earlier if available)

Grade L9 (£55,411) – L15 (£63,041)

Beormund Primary is Southwark’s SEN provision for children with social, emotional and mental health needs. Our children have a plethora of diagnosis and a complexity to their lives. Many have experienced an intervention with the PRU, all arrive with EHC Plans. The children have not found success in a mainstream setting so for us it’s about building upon their strengths, interests and passions and reigniting a love of learning.

Our expectations are high and our children achieve. We personalise the curriculum, enabling children to make accelerated academic progress whilst measuring improvements in their social, emotional and academic behaviours.  Beormund has a newly appointed Headteacher and a new Chair of Governors as we embark on an exciting new chapter for our school. We’re now looking for a driven and inspiring Deputy Head who is committed to improving the life chances of some of London’s most vulnerable children.

We would be looking for someone who is:

  • An innovative, engaging practitioner who has a strong understanding of how children learn and leads by example.
  • Leadership experience of driving successful whole school initiatives with positive outcomes for children.
  • Has experience of working alongside colleagues such as the SENCo, therapists, CAHMS, YOT in order to further support SEN children to access the curriculum.
  • Understands the importance of building relationships and has the resilience, flexibility and integrity to deal with challenging situations.
  • Is organised, motivated and has a positive disposition. Sense of humour is essential.
  • Has experience of robust safeguarding procedures and has worked alongside other professions to keep children safe.

We would then offer you:

  • The chance to teach an amazing group of children who never fail to amaze, fascinate or make you smile (the role is non class based with teaching responsibilities).
  • The chance to work alongside a fantastic team of people who are keen to be lead, who have a love of learning and a desire to improve.
  • A shared, aspirational vision for our school.
  • The opportunity to lead a motivated school team who are collectively driving our school priorities.
  • The opportunity to contribute to a new school design, alongside architects, as we look to build and relocate in the next two to three years.
  • The chance to explore more learning opportunities around neuroscience, psychology, special needs such as ASD and ADHD.

If this challenging and rewarding role interests you then visits to our school are highly recommended prior to applying.  Please contact Julia, our School Business Manager, should you wish for a phone conversation with the Head or to arrange a visit.  Application packs can be downloaded from our school website www.beormundschool.co.uk or from the TES website and must be returned to jpadmore@beormund.southwark.sch.uk.

Beormund is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All posts are subject to pre-employment checks, references will be sought and successful candidates will need to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
