The school serves a diverse community and is entering an exciting phase of its development. The school entered a brand new school building on 2nd November 2016. The school has embarked on a number of significant developments over the last 12 months, with the appointment of a new headteacher in September 2015. Our new Deputy Headteacher will lead the professional development of all staff in school, and will play a significant role in improving standards by means of the monitoring and improvement of standards of teaching across the curriculum.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a charismatic leader with the ability to enthuse and develop the teaching body
  • Be passionate and knowledgeable about the power of teaching to improve learning, with experience of leading aspects of teaching and learning at strategic level
  • Have the ability and courage to drive improvements with individual teachers, and to create and drive a coherent school strategy
  • Have excellent organisational, management, ICT and interpersonal skills

The headteacher shares a passion for developing teaching, has a strong vision and future direction for the school and is keen to develop a new member of the leadership team. However, the successful candidate will be given full autonomy to lead the school’s future direction in terms of teaching development.

Visits to the school are strongly encouraged, and can be arranged by emailing the headteacher’s PA Catherine.Humphreys@wernethschool.com.

Applicants should complete a letter of application of no longer than 2 sides of A4 paper, in which you detail your experiences to date and how these would prepare you for this position.

You should also complete the application form and return to the headteacher’s PA Catherine.Humphreys@wernethschool.com by Friday 9th December 2016. Interviews will be held in January 2017.

Values and Vision

Werneth School values pupils who have excellent attendance, who are well behaved and those who work hard to achieve their goals. The school aims to get to know each individual child and teachers should nurture and support them. The curriculum is one that meets the needs of all the students attending the school. The goal is for teachers to encourage every student to be positive about their futures. The school experience should be fun but it should also push them to become life-long learners. The aim is to help the students develop important life skills, this includes being independent, resilient and have respect for others.

Ofsted report

“Students achieve well. Attainment has risen rapidly and securely since the previous inspection. So too has the progress students make given their starting points. Students achieve well because teaching is usually good with some that is outstanding. A minority of teaching requires improvement. Most teaching is well planned, lively and challenging. Students enjoy learning and have positive attitudes towards school. They behave well and are respectful and courteous. They feel safe and are cared for well. Attendance has improved significantly. Leaders and managers, including the governing body, drive the school strongly and purposefully forward. They are at the root of the rapid and sustained improvements that have taken place.”
