Job overview

The Governors are seeking to appoint to the post of Deputy Headteacher, an outstanding teacher who can help us to focus even more clearly upon raising the quality of students’ outcomes through leading our student support systems. This is an ideal opportunity for either a current senior leader or an aspiring senior leader, who is keen to play a major role in Huntington’s continuing development into a truly great school.

The Job Description for the post includes the specific responsibilities as follows:

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead;
  • Leadership of the school’s House System, maintaining high standards of student behaviour and related Student Support/Inclusion provision;
  • Leadership of the school’s target setting and student progress tracking systems;
  • Liaison with external agencies re: extraordinary pastoral/behavioural support and curriculum provision and school representative on Local Authority Behaviour and Attendance Partnership.

We want to recruit someone who has a clear view of what great student support looks like and the ability to encourage others to create a school environment where students and staff can thrive together in an ethos where love triumphs over fear every time, even when that love has to be tough love. If you would like to find out more about the post then please contact the Headteacher, John Tomsett, for an informal discussion.

National Research School

We are a designated an EEF/IEE Research School.  Huntington plays a crucial role in this DfE initiative and will provide colleagues with great professional development opportunities.

Research Schools aim to lead the way in the use of evidence-based practice. Through the network we share what they know about putting research into practice, and support schools in their region to make better use of evidence to inform their teaching and learning so that they really make a difference in the classroom.

Becoming a Research School is an exciting development that will help us to support teachers and school leaders in our region, and nationally, at a time of turmoil and increasingly challenging curricula and assessment. We see our role as providing support tools and training to better inform school improvement and improve student outcomes.

"The school has a well-thought-out professional development programme for staff, which is  supported effectively by the Research School. As a result, staff are experts in their subject  areas. The school ensures that staff are supported in their development and learning.  Staff apply relevant subject and pedagogical research. This benefits all pupils." - Ofsted Nov 2023
