The Opportunity

Hurtwood House Shanghai is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and passionate Primary Deputy Principal. The successful candidate will work closely with the Primary Principal who is directly responsible to the International Chief Academic Direction and National Primary Principal for all aspects of the running of HD Shanghai, from Grade 1 (age 6) through to Grade 5 (age 10). 

The successful candidates will be joining one of the most exciting educational projects of our time – namely the education of Chinese nationals in a bilingual context. The School

Known locally as Shanghai HD Bilingual School, Hurtwood House Shanghai is affiliated with Hurtwood House UK, in Surrey. The School’s mission is to nurture global Chinese citizens, who develop an appreciation for the international context, whilst ensuring they hold onto their cultural heritage. Hurtwood House Shanghai believes that education creates character and focus on personal development and progress in equal measure to academics. The Person

The successful candidate will have:

  • A good degree from an established university (required)
  • PGCE/QTS or equivalent (required)
  • A minimum of two years' relevant leadership experience (required)
  • Excellent working knowledge of the UK National Curriculum (required)
  • At least eight years of relevant teaching experience (desirable)
  • Experience of working with children who have English as a Second Language (desirable)
  • Experience working in the independent sector and/or in a bilingual school (desirable)
  • Hold a passport from an English-speaking country (required due to visa restrictions)
