Job overview

The Deputy Principal Learning Support is a key position in the leadership team of Berhampore school. This is your opportunity to build on the skills you have developed as a SENCO or Learning Support Coordinator and take a lead role in ensuring that each child reaches their full potential.

In your previous roles you will have supported children with diverse needs including autism, intellectual disability and challenging behaviour and have developed strategies for creating success in their inclusion your classroom, and the wider school community.

Your strong interpersonal skills will allow you to build strong relationships with parents, teachers and other professionals and your collaborative approach with specialists, agencies and the disability community will see you successfully plan and support transitions for students with diverse needs into our school, and beyond.

You will lead and work collaboratively with the school’s learning support team, inclusion leader, PB4L Team (Positive Behaviour 4 Learning), and support staff. Your knowledge and experience will enable you to empower teachers to create the conditions for all children to be successful through participation with their peers and active learning experiences.

Berhampore School is highly diverse with over 20 different ethnic groups represented.  For many students their education is as much about learning a completely new way of life, culture and language as it about their schooling.

The school is very proud of the successful integration of such a diverse community and views this diversity as a key asset to learning, through Montessori education, and an intensive special needs programme that includes programmes in reading recovery, literacy recovery, ESOL and learning disabilities.

This role has a teaching component and would appeal to those wanting to take their next career step without losing their connection to being in the classroom.
