Job overview

Scale L14-L18 (£59,302 - £65,310 per annum)

Orchard Hill College (the College) and Orchard Hill College Academy Trust (the Trust) together form Orchard Hill College and Academy Trust (OHC&AT), a family of specialist education providers for pupils and students from nursery to further education. As an outstanding provider and Academy sponsor, Orchard Hill College has a strong track record for making a positive impact within the local communities it serves. The College has 6 centres and the Trust is now home to 15 special schools across London, Surrey, Sussex and Berkshire. As a family of specialist providers with a strong track record, we aim to create exciting and relevant educational opportunities tailored to the needs and ambitions of our current and future pupils and students with special education needs or who experience other barriers to learning.

Unified Academy (formally Chart Wood School) is a special school for boys aged 9 to 16 years who have social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH). Some students also have co-existing conditions, such as a specific learning difficulty or a diagnosis of ASD. This means that students struggle to form strong, healthy and sustainable relationships with others and can present with challenging behaviour. All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Class sizes are small with no more than six pupils in each teaching group. Lessons are carefully planned and take into account the needs, interests and abilities of all students so that learning is more purposeful and engaging. Additional support in the classroom is provided by way of classroom assistants who work with students to build their confidence and self-esteem whilst also supporting their academic, social and developmental needs.

Students have access to key adults and additional therapeutic input. Additionally, the school has a full time Home School Link Worker (HSLW) who provides additional support to our families such as, improving their child’s attendance at school and facilitating access to other Health and Social Care services.

We are seeking an ambitious, and inspirational leader to provide the professional leadership for the school to ensure that high quality teaching and learning secures at least good progress for each learner.

Key responsibility areas will include:

• Contribute to the strategic leadership and management of Unified Academy

• Leadership and management of students’ attainment and progress

• Line management of teachers and other senior leaders

• Leadership and management of the curriculum

• Leadership of learning and teaching and attitudes to learning

• Support the strategic leadership of safeguarding and child protection

We can offer:

• the opportunity to develop skills and experience within a family of providers;

• staff and an Executive Board who are highly committed and dedicated to success;

• support and guidance from Orchard Hill College and Academy Trust.

Please download the application form and send your completed application form via the TES website.  Please note that CV applications will not be considered.

Application closing date: 12 noon, Monday 19th April 2021

Interview date: Week Commencing Monday 26th April 2021

Orchard Hill College and Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
