The Role

Are you our new Deputy SENCo?   This fixed term contract will last for a maximum of 52 weeks or until the post holder returns should this be earlier. The post holder is currently planning to be away for the whole academic year. 0.60 FTE of the role will be dedicated to the Deputy SENCo role, with additional hours available to a candidate offering another subject to enable the post to be full time. This post provides an exciting opportunity to develop new skills, well supported by the rest of the team.

The School

We are a successful and heavily oversubscribed 11-18 co-educational, Church of England, comprehensive school of over 1700 students, serving families from the whole of greater Bristol and beyond. We are located at the heart of the city and have a diverse student community with considerable parental support. Our diversity is a strength and something we celebrate. The Redcliffe Sixth Form Centre currently houses more than 600 students taken from our own school and from many other schools across the City.

The School is proud of its academic record, and 84% of grades were at grade C/Level 4 or above (up from 78%) this summer.  87% achieved a Level 4 or above (equivalent to a C) in English and Maths.  Sixth Form results are also outstanding with a 99% pass rate and 81% at grade C or above.  32% got A* and A grades (up 5%).  Most Sixth Form students continue on to Higher Education, including 9 taking up Oxbridge places this year.

Inspection Reports

The School was judged in January 2012 and again in April 2015 to be outstanding by Ofsted, and outstanding in our church school (SIAMS) inspection, in each and every category. Ofsted judged Leadership and Management, Behaviour and Safety of Pupils, Quality of Teaching, Achievement of Pupils, and Sixth Form Provision, all as Outstanding.

The Department

The Learning Support team is passionate about helping students achieve their very best whatever obstacles they may have to overcome. The successful candidate will work with the energetic, creative SENCo, the Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion), an experienced specialist SEN teacher, an administrator and a group of committed LSAs as a tight team.

Members of the English and Maths departments are involved in literacy and numeracy support, which augments and compliments the work of the learning support department. Learning Support has become an increasing resource for teachers who want to discuss differentiation strategies for quality first teaching.  The team has also developed access arrangements and empowered students to use them effectively. The team has sought to develop their expertise in areas such as attachment disorder and mobility issues as students with particular needs have joined the school.  We always seek to integrate students into main-stream lessons with the minimum of well targeted interventions and withdrawal to promote rapid progress.

What we're looking for

We want a candidate who is well organised, a good communicator and who shares the philosophy of the school. With such a large, talented and diverse team we can adapt the post to the skill set of the successful candidate and make use of their areas of expertise.
