Hours of work:  37 hours per week x 39 weeks per year (Term time, plus 5 inset days)

We are seeking to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic Deputy SENDCo to support the day to day operational work of the SENDCo.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • To assist the SENDCo in leading the provision for special educational needs across the campus
  • To assist with SEND admin as required
  • To liaise with external agencies as appropriate
  • To oversee the day to day work of the teaching assistants
  • To coordinate person centred planning meetings with pupils
  • To support with parental engagement e.g. coffee mornings
  • To manage and maintain provision maps

Exemplar Specific Responsibilities

  • To deputise for the SENDCo
  • To liaise with relevant outside agencies to ensure that individual pupil SEND are met effectively
  • Ensuring that accurate and detailed records are kept of meetings and discussions with parents and outside agencies using outcome focussed plans.
  • Ensuring that staff are kept informed of pupil’s SEND and advise on areas to develop and support.
  • Working with the SENDCo and other staff to ensure that student Pen Portraits are being used
  • To provide guidance to staff on the choice of appropriate teaching and learning methods to meet the needs of different pupils as guided by the SENDCo.
  • To work with the SENDCo to promote an inclusive curriculum.
  • To liaise with and inform parents/carers about the specifics of the SEND provision for their child under the direction of the SENDCo.
  • To support meetings of SEND staff, communicate information to staff and co-ordinate resulting action.
  • To ensure pupils are supported appropriately in examinations
  • Ensure that accurate and detailed records are kept of meetings and discussions with parents and outside agencies
  • Ensure that the SEND Register is kept accurate and up to date and that staff are kept informed of pupil special educational needs

In order to perform this role well, the Deputy SENDCo is expected to:

  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of the school’s policies and procedures related to SEND, including the SEND Information Report, Child Protection, Safeguarding and Inclusion policies
  • Regularly attend relevant training and development events
  • Act in the best interest of all the pupils of the school; and behave in a professional manner, including maintaining confidentiality as required
