Job overview

We are looking for an experienced and confident mathematics practitioner. The successful candidate will be required to teach a variety of key stages and abilities whilst undertaking the role of second in department. You will be responsible for a key area within the department which is likely to be Key Stage 4 and standards and achievement.  You will  expected to deputise in the absence of the Subject Leader.

The mathematics department is the largest recruiter of sixth form students and many pupils enjoy the study of this subject all the way from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5. GCSE and A level outcomes have been consistently above national averages, with a particularly impressive number achieving A* at Key Stage 5 and grade 7 and above at GCSE.  Outcomes put this department in the top 10% of providers nationally  and Progress 8 outcomes have been consistently positive.

"You are ambitious for the pupils at the school. You are proud of their achievements and strive to ensure they do the best they can." OFSTED 2017

“Leaders have designed the curriculum to meet the needs of pupils of all abilities.  The most able pupils sit GCSE examinations early and, if they meet their target early, can start A Level courses in Year 11”. OFSTED 2017

The progress of students in the school has improved rapidly since it gained academy status and students’ overall achievement is good.” OFSTED 2013

You, like us, will share our belief in the highest standards of academic attainment in a comprehensive setting. We are therefore seeking to recruit an inspirational, professional and highly skilled teacher of mathematics.  You will have experience of delivering consistently good and often outstanding lessons and you will have a proven track record of high outcomes at GCSE and/or A level. The department is highly valued by pupils and has very high take up at A Level leading to destinations in Economics, Engineering and science related disciplines.

Westminster City School is a successful 11-18 boys’ Christian non -denominational comprehensive academy with a mixed sixth form. Ours is a lively and vibrant learning community situated in the heart of central London with all the challenges and advantages of an inner city school. The school was judged as ‘Good’ by Ofsted in early 2013 with an outstanding curriculum and governance. In 2017 OFSTED judged the school as continuing to be "Good". We are not complacent and are pro-active in our ambition to become recognised as an “Outstanding” school and standards have improved considerably since that judgement.

We believe in developing our staff and have a dynamic and supportive management team and an effective CPD programme which includes a regular teaching and learning forum.  We welcome applications from experienced teachers and those aspiring to middle leadership.
