Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate Design and Technology technician to join our vibrant Visual Arts faculty at The Norwood School

We are looking for an individual who has a passion for and interest in supporting students to develop their DandT skills. You will be required to work with teaching staff and students to prepare materials for lessons and maintain equipment. It is essential that you are able to support students in the workshop and food room; helping students to manufacture their products, working with a range of materials and equipment. The post- holder will also be responsible for keeping the department and its equipment safe, tidy, and well-stocked.

We have a fully equipped workshop and food room within the department and embrace the use of Technology, Innovation and Collaboration in all we do.  A team working attitude and an aptitude in the use of CAD/CAM is required.

The ideal candidate would have their DATA accredited workshop safety certification or be willing to train to achieve the relevant H&S qualifications.

The Visual Arts Faculty at Norwood is highly successful and delivers a broad and engaging programme of skills based courses across Key Stages 3-5 that are underpinned by contemporary practice and connections with local artists, designers and creative industries. Subjects within the faculty include Art & Design, Food Technology, Graphic Design, Photography, Product Design and Textiles.

Ofsted reports

“Students’ achievement is best when teachers make good use of assessment to set a demanding pace. In a Year 9 mathematics lesson, rapid learning activities with regular assessment meant students quickly developed the confidence to apply the skills of expanding brackets to a variety of problems. Students benefited from immediate identification of their misconceptions and moved on without delay.”
