Sheffield Springs Academy is seeking to appoint a Design and Technology Technician. The academy is part of United Learning, a national group of schools and academies. Sheffield Springs Academy is an 11-16 secondary school serving the Park, Manor and Castle wards of Sheffield. We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and dedicated Technician to join our Design and Technology Department. Applicants should have a proven track record of providing support and preparation for the teaching staff in the department to enable them to plan and teach, as well as be committed to supporting a range of students from a wide range of ethnic and social backgrounds in order to ensure they make sufficient progress.

Graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted (June 2019) this is a fantastic opportunity to join an academy making year on year progress. We are looking for a candidate committed to playing a part in transforming the lives of our young people.

The successful candidate will have a good working knowledge of maintenance and Health and Safety, as well as preparation of materials and resources and will manage ordering and replacement of stock and items. Experience of operating machinery is an integral part of the role and training will be provided for the successful candidate.

Main duties will include:

•        Overseeing servicing and maintenance of machines and equipment to ensure safety and reliability.

•        Preparing materials and equipment for lessons and projects, including preparation of demonstration

·        materials and resources.

•        Assisting teachers and students during lessons.

•        To control and safely store chemicals, flammables and specialised solutions, ensuring that Health and Safety standards and regulations are adhered to.

The successful applicant will be:

•        Reliable, highly motivated and self-driven.

•        Experienced with an excellent knowledge and understanding of Design and Technology.

•        Keen on attention to detail, has high standards and takes pride in their work.

•        A team player with strong communication skills.

•        Have a desire to be innovative and add value to the Department.

•        Be able to work using their own initiative and demonstrate effective time management and

•        organisational skills.

•        Have a fundamental belief in the power of education to enable students to achieve anything they set their minds to.
