Cumnor House Sussex is looking for a Design Technology Technician/Class Assistant who would like to join this outstanding Prep School in Sussex, and benefit from a superb DT classroom in our new STEM building. As part of an all-round, varied ‘Prep School’ experience, you will provide technical support and classroom assistance to the head of DT and pupils from Year 5 up to our potential Year 7/8 Scholars. 

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

· To carry out first line servicing of machines and equipment to ensure safety and reliability. This will include cleaning, oiling, sharpening, removing dust and minor repairs. You will also be requirde to keep a maintenance record. 

 · To prepare materials and equipment for lessons and projects, including preparation of demonstration materials and resources, and ensuring consumables are re-stocked.  

· Maintain stock rooms and keep stock records. Receive equipment and materials and maintain an inventory system. Purchase/order appropriate resources and make necessary returns.  

· To assist teacher and students during lessons.

· To prepare display materials and equipment for exhibitions

· To control and store safely all chemicals, flammables and specialised solutions, ensuring that current health and safety and COSHH regulations are adhered to.

· Ensure H&S records are up to date Keep safety signs up to date.   

· To manufacture storage equipment as and when requested. 

· To keep up-to-date with current procedures and practices through continuing professional development

Desirable Personal Qualities and Experience:

· Experience of working as a technician in a school or educational establishment, undertaking a range of practical tasks would be beneficial.

· Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation as it relates to the work of a school and DT Department.

· Able to prepare practical material and equipment in accordance with course syllabus and safety procedures.

· Willingness to learn new skills and continue developing skills associated with the role;

· Willingness to learn 2D and 3D CAD and the use of CNC machinery.

· Reliable and flexible, with a can-do approach to all duties and responsibilities in a professional and helpful manner.

· Ideally a higher level qualification in Design, Technical or Engineering

 

Hours of Work

· 3 day per week, hours 9.00 -17.00

  • When concerned about the welfare of a pupil, act in the best interests of the pupil. 

 

All staff have a key role to play in identifying concerns early and in providing help for children and are expected to act in accordance with the School’s Safeguarding & Child Protection Policies.
