Job overview
Newhouse Academy – part of the Hollingworth Learning Trust – has an exciting opportunity for a Designated Safeguarding Lead to join our academy from early 2023. This post is arising due to the retirement of the current post holder and there will be a period of hand-over with the newly appointed candidate.
We are looking for a dedicated individual who will take full responsibility for child protection matters within the academy and will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
The ideal candidate will…
- Hold a degree or the equivalent and possess appropriate DSL level qualifications;
- Be able to articulate how they meet the essential criteria of this role, as detailed on the person specification document;
- Be dedicated to improving the life chances of students at Newhouse Academy and share our drive towards ensuring that all students reach their desired, ambitious destinations.
Newhouse Academy is a comprehensive secondary school, situated close to the M60 in the town of Heywood. We work closely with our partner school, Hollingworth Academy, (an outstanding local secondary school); and are on a school improvement journey to deliver rising academic standards. We have also been chosen as one of 50 schools nationally to gain government funding for building development, which will see further improvement to our school building and outside spaces in the very near future.
With academy values of Aspiration, Integrity and Respect, we are embedding an ‘Our People’ culture through everything we do and our high expectations of both students and staff are bearing fruit. We are delighted to have been the best attended secondary school in the borough in 2021/22, (something we plan to emulate during this coming academic year). GCSE examination results for 2022 showed improvement across the board and the number of students achieving a 5+ in English and maths increased by 12%.
This is an exciting opportunity to make your mark at an academy that started its improvement journey in 2020. We believe in providing a world class education for students and are committed to the continuous professional development of staff.
If you have a strong character, energy, credibility and the ability to inspire; if you can motivate and challenge others; we’d love you to join us in taking this journey.
In return, we offer:
- Membership of the GMPF Pension scheme
- Funded CPD for nationally recognised qualifications
- A package of health benefits
- Free use of gym facilities
- Staff activities, including a Wellbeing Café, running/cycling/walking group, ‘Cake Friday’
- Ample car parking
