Job overview

In 2014 Camden schools and Council created a Schools Led Partnership to oversee school improvement which incorporated in 2016 to become a not-for-profit schools company: Camden Learning. All 60 state-funded schools in Camden are members as is the Council. Camden Learning’s aim is to lead improvement by schools for schools enabling Camden state schools to be the best in the Country by 2020 with no child left behind, and to forge a new model for local education delivery.

Co-designed by Headteachers, senior Council leaders and governors, Camden Learning draws on research that demonstrates how the world's most successful school systems:

  • Distribute and grow improvement expertise and leadership in schools across the system, not just centrally.
  • Make successful practice, as well as improvements in practice and their outcomes, visible and public so others can learn from them.
  • Expect professionals to share and pass on their expertise to colleagues as a matter of course.
  • Create opportunities for teachers and leaders to work in these ways and to develop their skills in doing so.

All schools draw upon the skills and expertise within the membership: Teaching Schools, National Support Schools, Learning Hub schools, Council and school based teams who together form the company. School-based professionals regularly contribute to local improvement. Contributor schools receive proper remuneration for their work.

Applications are invited from suitably experienced and qualified candidates to lead and manage this organisation. We are seeking an inspiring individual with proven hands-on experience improving schools and systems. If you are head of a successful teaching school, an executive head, NLE, or fulfilling another education system leadership role and possess the vision to make Camden Learning both educationally and financially successful and the school improvement partner of choice then this may be a unique opportunity for you to mould a new system nationally. And if you have a hunger for educational excellence and an ability to run an effective organisation you could be the right person for us.
