Job overview

We seek to appoint an enthusiastic, well-organised and versatile Director in Residence who must be an outstanding and inspiring theatre practitioner. The Director in Residence will assist the Director of Drama and Director of Music in developing the extra-curricular provision as well assisting pupils in their academic drama lessons. This is a fixed term position (2 year contract) during term time plus 3 weeks during the holidays and comes with accommodation.

Strong communication skills are essential, as is a sense of humour and willingness to be part of a very friendly and supportive team - whose work centres around the pupils’ enjoyment and development.

The candidate will need to be energised and full of stamina and to be prepared to work in a busy and thriving department, which often involves flexible working patterns and unsociable hours. Although much of the work will be based in the Senior School (ages 11-18), the person appointed should enjoy working with young people in the Prep School and may be responsible for some curriculum lessons. Suitable candidates will also possess solid ICT skills as well as a readiness to see what needs doing and to do it.

About Chigwell School

Chigwell School is an independent, mixed, Church of England all-through day and boarding school for four to 19-year-olds,  located in Chigwell, Essex. The school has just over 1060 pupils.

The school can trace its history back to 1629, when it was founded originally as a boys’ school. It is run as an educational charity, overseen by a board of governors who are also trustees of that charity.
