Job overview

The New Schools Network (NSN) is a charity that was set up in 2009 and works to transform the standard of education in England. NSN does this by delivering more high-quality free schools and campaigning to win public and political support for free schools. With offices in London and Manchester, the organisation employs about 30 people and has an annual income in the region of £2.5m. Most of NSN's funding comes through Government grants, but it also raises money through other grants and donations and will continue to look in the future to diversify its income streams further. The organisation's primary purpose is to deliver services on behalf of the Government and has recently secured multi-year funding to do this through March 2020.

The Board of Trustees wishes to appoint a new Director who is passionate about free schools and will provide strong leadership and management for an organisation which aims to deliver its services to a high standard. Critical to success is that the Director works with the Board on a strategy for the future that sees NSN continuing to play a role in driving school improvement.

The new Director will have a collaborative style, strong inter-personal skills and be an outstanding communicator. Candidates will need a genuine interest in, and knowledge of, schools as well as experience of leading teams, managing complex stakeholders and, ideally, experience of working with Whitehall. Chaired by David Ross, NSN's Board wishes to appoint someone who shares their enthusiasm for making a difference to the English educational landscape and can clearly see the role which NSN can play in achieving this.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency adviser to New Schools Network on this appointment. For further information about the role, contact Jo Ogilvy at jo.ogilvy@saxbam.com.
