Job overview

Director of Teaching School Hub (EENEL 9)

Leadership 17-21

3 Year secondment opportunity

The North East London Teaching School Hub has been designated as one of the 87 new national Teaching School Hubs for Waltham Forest, Haringey and Redbridge, comprising 239 schools.   We are now seeking to appoint an experienced and strategic leader to establish an outstanding provision which will transform support for staff throughout our region and improve lives for children and young people

The newly appointed Director will be well supported by Walthamstow School for Girls, the lead school, and through the expertise across the three Boroughs.  The role will be based at Walthamstow School for Girls, but you will be expected to attend other locations throughout North East London and to work at both a local and national level.

As the Director of the Teaching School Hub, you will create a centre of excellence for teacher training and development across the region. You will help ensure that our approaches to staff development and teacher training align across our areas of operation, working alongside existing networks of teaching schools to create a golden thread of development across our area. The Hub will provide high quality professional development to teachers at all stages of their careers. It will play a significant role in delivering school-based initial teacher training (ITT), the early career framework (ECF) when it is available nationally from September 2021, the new specialist and leadership national professional qualifications (NPQ) and high-quality, evidence-based professional development to school leaders and teachers.

Our ambition is to ensure that every child has a great teacher, who inspires and unlocks their potential. The post will bring together the skill set of an experienced strategic leader, with a passion to impact children’s lives and a detailed understanding of the educational landscape.

This is an exciting opportunity to be at the inception of a brand new partnership and initiative. You will have the opportunity to develop your own team and design your own systems, in line with your vision, to ensure quality professional development across the Hub. As the successful candidate you will be an innovative, strategic and visionary leader with a passion for education and a robust understanding of the importance of both teacher development and putting children first.

If you are committed to our ethos of equality and diversity, ensuring the best quality outcomes for every student in North East London, then this is the role for you.

About Walthamstow School for Girls

Walthamstow School for Girls (WSFG) is a mainstream, non-denominational secondary school for girls aged 11-16. It is situated in Walthamstow, East London, and it has  900 pupils on its roll.

WSFG is an oversubscribed, highly successful state comprehensive, with a proud history of educating girls since 1890. We are passionate about education being a vehicle for promoting equality and our mission is to empower young women to become leaders of the future. Although we are an Outstanding School, achieve exceptional outcomes and have consistently been in the top 10% of schools nationally for progress, our focus is on developing exceptional young women, not just on academic achievement. We want to recruit staff who actively embrace diversity and inclusion and who are committed to social justice as part of the state comprehensive system.

The school was founded in 1890, originally as a private school, situated on West Avenue. It later moved to the current location on Church Hill. In the 1920s unemployed workers built the school an amphitheatre known as the "Greek Amphitheatre" which still exists in the grounds today. The most recent additions to the school buildings were made in 2010 and the school now benefits from excellent facilities as well as beautiful school grounds.

Walthamstow School for Girls is a wonderful place to work, learn, teach and lead. We are passionate about education being a vehicle for promoting equality for all and our mission is to empower young women to become leaders of the future. We are a truly comprehensive school, proud of our diversity and committed to social justice.
