Director of A Level Science

The Governing Body of St Paul’s School for Girls is seeking to appoint an inspirational Director of A level Science for commencement September 2017/January 2018. We seek an outstanding practitioner with the ability to lead the delivery of A level Science in this outstanding Catholic School. We are looking for a dedicated and committed leader to drive academic progress and take a key role in supporting and developing the Catholic life of the school. The successful candidate will have a proven track record to make their next step into leadership.

St Paul's is a Catholic comprehensive school for girls aged 11-19. St Paul's is in the top 5 % of schools in the UK and the top comprehensive school in Birmingham. In 2016 GCSE 88% A*-C including English and Maths and progress was 0.51, the second highest in the whole of Birmingham, including Grammar Schools.

This is a new post as the number of girls studying A Level Science has significantly increased in the last three years. The successful candidate will be responsible for continuing: excellent recruitment to A Level Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics), for coordinating the monitoring of pupil progress and putting in place appropriate interventions to ensure outstanding pupil progress and outcomes

The successful applicant will be

• Responsible for the leadership of A level Science

Must have:

• Track record of outstanding A level teaching outcomes with positive value added e.g. ALPS-Red
• Consistent record of outstanding teaching and learning
• Experience of successfully planning, resourcing and delivering at least one Science at A Level
• Ability to lead and inspire a team of specialist Biology, Chemistry and Physics A Level teachers
• Ability to monitor and effectively track pupil progress and put in place appropriate and timely interventions
• Ability to communicate effectively with pupils, staff and parents
• Ability to inspire a love of Science
• Ability to motivate and inspire pupil self-confidence
• A positive can do attitude to help pupils overcome any barriers to learning
