Summary:

This vacancy has arisen following a restructure of the RNC Executive team and is an opportunity for the right candidate to play a leading role at a national specialist college which has a global reputation for excellence. We are now seeking a Director of Business and Enterprise who will ensure provide inspirational and inclusive leadership to income generation, facilities and project management.

To succeed in this role you will be someone who fosters a culture of respect, who recognises the skills and dedication of all staff, and who has an inclusive approach which provides opportunities for colleagues to contribute to the development of the RNC community. You will have proven operational and strategic experience at a senior level, and demonstrate strong communication and relationship building skills. A key requirement is to be able to multi task and provide calm effective leadership to the reporting areas, ensuring their work is effectively linked to the wider needs of the College.

The successful candidate will demonstrate inspirational leadership, with a strong focus on diversifying and increasing commercial and voluntary income streams while further improving the College estate and technical infrastructure. They will achieve high standards in all departments by establishing a culture that promotes excellence and equality within a safe environment. They will support the Executive Principal in advising the Board and, as a member of the Senior Management Team, will play a key role in developing and implementing strategy for RNC as a whole.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • As part of the Executive, work with Board and the Senior Management Team to ensure that RNC maximises opportunities for income generation through its commercial trading subsidiary (RNC Enterprises) and fundraising activities
  • To oversee and direct the work of the Estates, Technical Support, Commercial and Fundraising teams
  • To lead, manage, motivate, appraise and develop the heads of department reporting to this post; and to secure the involvement of all staff within the area in meeting financial and other targets
  • To lead the development and implementation of strategies, operating plans and budgets for each of the reporting areas 
  • To facilitate joined-up working between all teams within the reporting area and the rest of the organisation in order to deliver strategic priorities, including identifying, developing and defining projects that will attract fundraising income and sponsorship
  • To support the Commercial Manager to achieve the team’s objectives through a marketing-driven approach and robust financial management, whilst providing a service that focuses on the student experience.
  •  To refine and deliver a strategy that supports the promotion and sale of commercial activities, driving new initiatives and maximising revenue whilst maintaining the integrity of academic activity, student experience and the fabric of the estate
  •  Working with the Fundraising Manager, to oversee the implementation of the partnership, income generation and fundraising strategy which underpins the charity's strategic goals to accelerate income growth in a sustainable manner across a diverse range of voluntary income streams, including areas of required investment, KPIs and milestones
  • To work with the Technical Support Manager and ITC teaching staff to ensure that the College has appropriate IT facilities, support and policies, including specialist and accessible technologies, in line with the RNC IT strategy and safeguarding policies, to support all aspects of RNC provision
  • In conjunction with the Estates Manager, to lead the planning and delivery of reactive, preventative and planned maintenance across the College’s estate, using service, value for money, stakeholder and customer feedback and other metrics to enhance the quality of delivery over time. To develop and implement a rolling five year plan of building enhancement and, if appropriate, new build
  • To develop strategies to effectively market the estate for commercial purposes and to promote the RNC charity to a wide range of current and potential stakeholders to maximise income
  • To drive forward an ambitious agenda to ensure that the College makes the best possible use of its estate and commercial resources to support the best experience and outcomes for its students
  • To ensure that all teams within the reporting area contribute positively to the student experience, particularly in providing work based learning opportunities
  • To lead, manage and contribute to a range of projects, from design to delivery, working in collaboration as required
  • To identify risks within the College, contributing to and maintaining an effective system of risk management, including a risk register and actions to reduce and mitigate risk
  • To provide professional advice and be accountable to the RNC and RNC Enterprise Boards as appropriate and contribute to their effective functioning
  • To ensure RNC and RNC Enterprise’s health and safety policies, procedures and day to day arrangements meet statutory and regulatory obligations and reporting requirements and have appropriate insurance in place
  • To comply with and be a champion for the College’s Equality and Diversity Policy
  • To carry out other duties as may reasonably be required
