Compass School Southwark is a four-form entry, mixed, 11-18 free school that opened in September 2013. The school is located in a temporary learning village that includes refurbished facilities, but will be moving to a brand new state-of-the-art school building close to our current site.

The post of Director of Business and Operations is an integral role within the small Senior Leadership Team (Principal, Director of School, Director of Learning, Director of Business and Operations) at Compass School Southwark. As one of four key leaders in the school, along with the Principal, the Director of Business and Operations lead the strategic and operational decisions that ensure that Compass School Southwark achieves its ambition of becoming one of the highest performing schools in the country.

The Director of Business and Operations is responsible for providing professional leadership and management of the school’s administrative and support staff, to ensure that the school is able to effectively and efficiently achieve improved standards of learning and outcomes in the school. All members of the Senior Leadership Team are jointly accountable for outcomes at the school.

In addition, the Director of Business and Operations is responsible for:

  • Financial resource management and planning
  • Management information systems and ICT
  • Human resource management
  • Facility and property management
  • Health and safety management
