Job overview

This opportunity arises on the retirement of Susan Weighell after 18 years’ service to St. Catherine’s, 8 of which have been as Director of Careers Education and lead Teacher of Business.

The person appointed as Director of Careers Education will be:

  • Either, an enthusiastic and energetic full-time teacher with a genuine interest in Careers education,
  • or a Careers’ Advisor with a business background,
  • or an individual from the world of business with an interest in exploring an advisory role in a school context.

They will bring vision and creativity to the challenge of enhancing the existing strong careers provision throughout the School and will oversee those areas of curriculum and school life which contribute to giving the girls a greater awareness of life beyond school.  The successful applicant will be expected to set the highest of professional standards within the Common Room at all times and to represent the School in the wider community of parents and local contacts while creating networks that will support the Careers Department’s work.

For a teacher, the role will potentially include approximately half a timetable which will include some specific Careers teaching as well as subject teaching, including at least 4 periods of Sixth Form lessons. The remaining non-contact time up to the equivalent of a full-time timetable will be devoted to Careers work as outlined below.  For a non-teacher applicant there may be other areas of School life in which a contribution could be made to create a full-time role, or alternatively a significant part-time role might be possible.  This would be explored at interview.

For someone interested in also heading up the School’s Outreach Programme and driving this forward this would also make up a full-time role.

Applicants should include full reference to their teaching subject and experience, where relevant, or their interest in either the part-time role or the role including the Outreach Programme which could be explored at interview.

Further details and an application form are available from www.stcatherines.info/welcome/job-opportunities or email jobapplications@stcatherines.info

Closes 12 noon, Wednesday 2 February 2022.

St Catherine’s is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and an enhanced DBS and barred list check. The School is an equal opportunities employer.

St Catherine's School, Bramley, an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 4 -18. Founded in 1885, the school enjoys over a century of tradition and prides itself on its own very special blend of academic excellence and pastoral care.
As a girls' school St Catherine's ensures that its students develop in an environment which suggests to them in everything they see around them that there is nothing that a woman cannot achieve.

They gain a balanced view of the world and their place in it and, with that sense of fearlessness and security, and the confidence it generates, I believe that St Catherine's girls will continue to be very well placed to pursue their education when they leave school at eighteen as sensible, caring and competent young women who will have much to offer in life.
Academic results are important - the school is comfortably placed in the infamous league tables - but we believe that there is much more to an all round education for the young women of the 21st century. The breadth of opportunity afforded to our students and the special atmosphere of support and encouragement which is the hallmark of the school allow St Catherine's to enjoy a reputation as a happy school for bright girls. The philosophy that happiness at school is the key to success and enjoyment for every individual underpins everything we do.
