Job overview

Cheltenham Ladies’ College (CLC) is an outstanding school with a global reputation, which has been at the forefront of girls’ education for 170 years. Established in 1854, CLC is one of the largest school communities of boarding and day girls in Europe. Today, this pioneering heritage is honoured whilst leaning imaginatively into the needs of a complex and changing world. The College occupies a 36-acre dispersed campus right in the heart of the attractive Cotswold town of Cheltenham, where a warm and inclusive pupil community of around 870 girls is supported by a large and dedicated staff body.

GCSE, A Level and IB results are consistently excellent, with College frequently named as the top IB school in the country. Over the last five years, CLC has won numerous awards for academic excellence and has been named The Sunday Times South-West Independent Secondary School of the Decade.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an outstanding and experienced MarComs professional, to provide strategic direction and inspired leadership for College’s communication and marketing activities. Reporting directly to the Principal, this is a pivotal leadership role which, as a member of a Leadership Team of the highest calibre, will also be instrumental in shaping the strategic direction of College as a whole.

Responsible for the development and implementation of a College-wide strategy for both communications and marketing, the ideal candidate will have a demonstrable track record in strategic communications, marketing and brand management gained from within or outside the education sector. This combined with an inherent feel for the educational landscape and the factors which drive parents to invest in an independent education for their daughters.

"Girls enrolling in College are highly likely to see in the turn of the next century, living lives of unprecedented longevity. Their world will be full of promise, choice and possibility on a scale that has not been true for any generation of women that has preceded them.

“Leading this energetic, talented and caring community of staff and pupils is an extraordinary privilege. We have a unique and inspiring pioneering heritage which we cherish, and we have a very exciting future. We would love you to be a part of it.”

Eve Jardine-Young, Principal

College first opened its doors in February 1854 with the purpose of providing girls with a thorough academic education. We have remained committed to that pioneering goal, while adapting to a complex and changing world. Today we are one of the largest school communities of boarding and day girls in Europe, allowing us to provide a rich holistic curriculum. Approximately 850 pupils from 40 countries across the world benefit from the knowledge and expertise gained over the last 160 years of putting girls first.

Our motivated and able pupils genuinely want to learn, and consistently achieve results at the very highest level in GCSE, A Level, Pre-U and IB examinations. For the teachers who can nurture such achievement, we offer excellent resources, professional support and personal development. In addition, we have a dedicated team that manages evening and weekend boarding duties, so you can focus on what you do best: inspiring your classes.

You can also look forward to a wonderful working environment right at the heart of Cheltenham. Described as the cultural centre of the Cotswolds, this elegant and thriving town offers excellent transport links to the South West or Midlands, with the M5 in easy reach. London can be reached in two hours, and Cheltenham’s mainline rail station provides rapid and frequent connections with the rest of the UK.

We believe that there are few better places to live and work – and no better setting within which ambitious teachers can make a positive impact on their pupils’ lives.
