Director of Computing

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Director of Computing, who specialises in GCSE and A Level to join our University Technical College (UTC).

The UTC opened in September 2013 in facilities that support the specialism of computer science and engineering. UTC Reading is rated “Good” in all areas, by Ofsted inspection in February 2025. You can read the report here: https://www.utcreading.co.uk/key-information/ofsted-reports/

Students at UTC Reading specialise in either Engineering or Computer Science; at 14 they will also study a broad and balanced curriculum and at Post 16 the curriculum becomes more specialist with various A levels in STEM subjects. In addition, students can study a specialist BTEC Level 3 course in Engineering or IT to extended diploma. At capacity, we will be educating 500 students who will all have a passion for Science, Technology Engineering or Mathematics; it is a truly inspirational environment.

The Director of Computing will take a lead role in developing our specialism of Computing and taking it to the next level. The candidate should show clear passion for Computing and its key role in the developing technological world and the importance of preparing young people to thrive in this environment.

We teach GCSE, A level and BTEC Computing and are looking for a leader who can support curriculum development and staff development in the coming years. We have a robust and supportive leadership development programme to enhance leader’s experience and future career development.
