Job Title: Director of Curriculum and Pedagogy

Line Manager: Chief Education Officer


Purpose of Job

  • Responsible for working with all members the HIMS Education Team on the development of education in AISL Harrow Schools
  • To work with the Heads and wider senior team to develop a culture of continuous improvement across AISL schools.
  • Provide guidance and support to HIS and HILA school teams in delivering the AISL Harrow educational model and for securing educational excellence   
  • Support school in securing excellence in student attainment and progress in HILA and HIS schools. This work is to cover:
  1. Curriculum development and research into best practice
  2. Quality of teaching
  3. Student outcomes and progress
  4. Leadership of learning through people and teams
  5. Mapping of IGCSE and A Level requirements and standards with those of the Chinese National Curriculum and National Curriculum from England
  6. Supporting with curriculum evaluation and development in AISL Harrow schools
  7. Enabling excellence in higher education programmes


Duties and Responsibilities

Student outcomes

  • Promote the development and utilisation of education data dashboards to track student learning and development.
  • To ensure that assessment systems give real-time understanding of performance, provide assurance on outcomes and the quality and consistency of practice, and allow for rapid and targeted response to emerging concerns.
  • Support schools in leading interventions to enhance student achievement in Lower School and Upper School.
  • Work with school leaders and their teams in securing excellent public examination outcomes.
  • Assist in developing effective programmes for preparing students for successful applications to world leading universities. 
  • To collaborate with schools to conduct post- examination results analysis and to analyse statistics relating to university entrance, and trends in subject numbers. 


Curriculum Development

  • To set up shared online curriculum resources for AISL leaders and teachers. 
  • To develop the strengths of leaders and share expertise across AISL schools.
  • To keep all AISL schools updated with current practice and provide relevant curriculum updates.
  • To assist with developing strategy for the delivery of the curriculum, linked with staffing and timetable planning, liaising closely with the Heads, the Chinese Education team and HR team.
  • To support the education team with specific group-wide initiatives.
  • To assist the schools in their development of the schemes of work to support the delivery of the curriculum
  • To remain up-to-date and policies in response to the new developments in education
  • To work with the academic teams in schools to ensure sharing of pedagogical practice and harnessing the advantages and strengths of English and Chinese teaching.
  • To work with academic teams in AISL Harrow schools to promote integration of Chinese and English curriculum domains, including assisting with curriculum evaluation and development


Quality of Teaching

  • Support and develop school leaders with monitoring of the quality of teaching.
  • To work with the Heads and the education team to develop group wide pedagogical principles which are shared across AISL Harrow schools, using educational research to inform and guide staff teams in the implementation of these high-quality pedagogical principles.
  • To constantly innovate in pedagogical practice using research methods and bringing extensive expertise from previous settings.
  • To support school self-evaluation and AISL QA framework.


External Engagement

  • To be a compelling ambassador for AISL and play a key role in building the organisation’s reputation
  • To represent AISL and the schools at external events.
