The Diocese of Chichester has more than 150 schools across Sussex, alongside our 360 parishes. Our vision for our Education is “Deeply Christian, serving the common good.” We’re now seeking a new leader of our education team, as the present Director of Education, Trevor Cristin, is moving on after 6 years of dedicated service.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop the Education and Schools strategy with our family of church schools, to grow partnerships between church schools, parishes and the wider community and to work with our existing Academy Trusts and schools who are on the path to academisation.
We seek an experienced and vocationally motivated strategic leader who will inspire and lead the officers of the DBE, our Headteachers and governing bodies, to ensure that every child entrusted to our care is given a life-giving, transformational, encounter with Jesus Christ.
You will have a passionate commitment to the highest educational opportunities and standards, as well as to the deeply Christian and distinctive place and voice of the Church of England in education locally and nationally.

The Diocese of Chichester is one of 41 dioceses of the Church of England, covering East and West Sussex and Brighton & Hove. Its Board of Education is responsible for 150 primary and seven secondary schools which educate over 37,000 children. The Diocese has over two hundred years of successful experience as a provider of schools across Sussex as part of its mission to support and serve the whole community. We are passionate about giving children a knowledge of the church, and offering them an opportunity to come to Jesus.
The Board’s responsibilities include
- promoting education which is consistent with the faith and practice of the Church of England in the diocese
- promoting religious education and religious worship in schools in the diocese
- promoting church schools in the diocese and advising the school governors, trustees of church educational endowments and others
The Diocese is the sponsor of a Multi-Academy Trust containing 5 primary and one secondary school and set to expand, and two other schools are in standalone academies.
