Job overview

4 Schools| Co-educational | Day and Boarding | 3-18

Malvern College is seeking to appoint a Director of Education to commence as soon as possible after June 2018. Reporting to the Director of International Schools, the Director of Education has lead responsibility for overseeing the educational provision at the College’s overseas campuses, and is the principal educational liaison between Malvern College and its overseas schools. This is a senior and important role for the College as it further develops its ambitious overseas expansion plans. The role will be based at Malvern College in Worcestershire, UK, but will require substantial international travel.

Malvern College International (MCI) is a family of schools each of which has their origins in Malvern College, a leading independent school in  Worcestershire, UK. Founded in 1865, Malvern College is set in a beautiful 250-acre campus which offers first-class facilities to its pupils. Malvern College is a coeducational boarding and day school for pupils aged 13-18 and has a strong academic focus complemented by an extensive co-curricular programme that fosters all-round individual development.

The development of MCI can be seen as a natural extension of Malvern College’s long- established commitment to developing international mindedness and educating students from diverse international and cultural backgrounds around the world.

MCI schools offer internationally recognised academic programmes and embed the specific features of a Malvern College education, the ethos and values, while providing an education provision reflective of the cultural context in which each school operates. Each overseas school focuses on helping students achieve their full potential, wherever their talents may lie, and preparing them for a university education in any English- speaking country in the world.

In September 2012, Malvern College opened its first sister school, Malvern College Qingdao, in the eastern Chinese province of Shandong. The College opened its second international campus in Chengdu, south-west China, in September 2015, its third, in Cairo, in September 2016, and its fourth and fifth in Hong Kong in 2017 and 2018 respectively. It is likely that further international schools will follow over the next 5-10 years under the MCI umbrella.

Malvern College works in close partnership with each overseas school. While all Malvern College overseas campuses are independent institutions in their own right, with their own management teams and governing bodies, Malvern College is closely involved in setting standards and providing governance and oversight. An International Schools team, based at Malvern College, travels on a regular basis to each sister school and carries out an annual Quality Assurance visit.

Malvern College International Ltd is a trading subsidiary of Malvern College, and is managed by Allan Walker, Director of International Schools, who reports through the Bursar to the Headmaster. The Headmaster and Director of International Schools are both members of the Advisory Board of each overseas school, and the Director of International Schools himself has overall responsibility for the relationship between each school and Malvern College as well as for the business as a whole.
