We are seeking to appoint an exceptional Director of Education who can work with the Chief Executive, Headteachers and members of the Central Team to improve the effectiveness of schools in the Oxfordshire region initially, and raise standards through strong and exceptional leadership and management. The specific focus is to improve the quality of learning and teaching.

You will need to be a strategic leader who:

  • Is dynamic and motivational with a proven, successful record of improving student achievement;

  • Is able to inspire and motivate staff;
  • Is an excellent, engaging communicator who will develop strong relationships with school leadership teams, governors, directors, staff and young people.

Suitable candidates will be qualified teachers with both primary and secondary experience and/or knowledge, and have at least two years’ experience of working at senior leadership team level in a school context. A thorough understanding of school improvement strategies, quality assurance systems and effective pedagogy is essential.  You should be a confident user of data with excellent analysis and presentation skills, be highly literate and able to demonstrate a commitment to our vision, ethos and purpose.

This is a permanent position with a leadership salary which is negotiable based on your level of experience and suitability.  We are looking for a full time candidate preferably, however part time or job share arrangements may also be considered for an outstanding candidate.  The MILL Academy registered offices are based at The Henry Box School in West Oxfordshire, but the Director of Education will be expected to be able to travel often to any school in the Trust and other schools looking to join the Trust.

The Henry Box School is a large secondary school with academy status located in Witney, Oxfordshire, England.  The school has a catchment area of the town of Witney and many surrounding villages such as Ducklington and Aston.  It has approximately 1200 students, aged 11 - 18.  The Latin motto of the Henry Box School is Studio Floremus, which can be translated as 'By study we flourish'.  The site was purchased in 1660 by grocer Henry Box, who established the school in his hometown after becoming a successful businessman in London.  The schoolhouse, still surviving, and now a Grade II listed building.

The school has had a recent Ofsted inspection (February 2023), the school maintained its 'good school' status.

Professional Development

The school invests heavily in staff CPD, our booklet is attached which gives a flavour of what is on offer.  The school is one of only 14 schools in the country to be awarded the Teacher Development Trust's Gold Award for our CPD programmes for our staff.

Professional Development is central to our work and we offer opportunities and support for all staff to develop their skills.  From our excellent NQT programme through to our ‘Future Leader’ programme, we are committed to recruiting and retaining the best.  Being the lead school in our multi academy trust, we can also offer the opportunity for colleagues to develop their careers beyond one school if this is their area of interest.
